Home service marketing that books jobs, not just calls

When the AC quits or a pipe bursts, homeowners call whoever shows up first and looks trustworthy. We plan search ads, Local Services Ads, your Google profile, social ads and email around how your customers actually call, and we count booked jobs.

  • 9,900searches a month for "plumber near me" in the Charlotte area
  • 4xmore "ac repair" searches in the summer peak than the winter low, US
  • $30 to $76estimated cost of one click on "plumber near me" in Charlotte
  • 18home service trades we plan campaigns for

The short answer

What does home service marketing need to do?

Home service marketing has one job: put your phone number in front of the homeowner at the moment something breaks, and give them a reason to trust you over the next result.

Most of that moment happens on a phone, in Google search, the map results and Local Services Ads, often within minutes. The rest of the year is quieter work: maintenance plans, reviews, replacement projects and the customers you already served. We plan both, and we judge every channel by the jobs it books and what those jobs are worth, not by clicks or call counts.

What home service companies need from marketing.

An HVAC company, a plumber and a roofer sell different things, but their marketing problems rhyme. These are the ones we plan around first.

  • Emergency calls, answered fast

A no-heat or burst-pipe search is decided in minutes. Ads, call routing and after-hours answering have to work at 10pm on a Sunday, not just during office hours.

  • Two seasons, two businesses

Cooling and heating peaks swing demand by several times. Budgets, offers and staffing plans move with them instead of running flat all year.

  • A service area, not a city

Profitable work sits inside a drive-time radius. Targeting, landing pages and your Google profile follow the towns your trucks can actually reach.

  • Reviews and verification

Homeowners compare stars before they call. A steady review routine and Google Verified status on Local Services Ads carry as much weight as the ad itself.

  • Maintenance plans and repeat work

The cheapest booked job is a past customer. Plan renewals, seasonal tune-ups and replacement offers come from email and your own list, not from paying for the same click twice.

  • Big tickets that need financing

A system replacement or a new roof is a considered purchase. Financing, comparisons and in-home estimates turn that interest into a signed job weeks later.

What homeowners search, in Charlotte and across the US.

Monthly searches and estimated click costs for the searches a home service company competes for. The national numbers show the size of the market; the Charlotte numbers are the auction you would actually bid in.

Urgency sets the price
In Charlotte, "emergency plumber near me" costs about $46 to $102 a click against $30 to $76 for "plumber near me". The urgent search is worth more, and it is also where a slow answer wastes the most money.
The seasons are real
Nationally, "ac repair" searches run about four times higher at the summer peak than the winter low, and "furnace repair" does the opposite. A flat monthly budget overspends one half of the year and starves the other.
"Near me" is a map search
Most of the volume carries "near me". Those searches show the map and Local Services Ads above the regular ads, which is why the Google profile and LSA sit inside the plan, not beside it.

Our approach: it depends, and the data decides.

There is no single right mix for a home service company. A one-truck plumber and a 40-tech HVAC company need different plans, and so do a business with a full schedule and one with empty slots. Four things set the starting point.

  • Your goals More emergency calls, more replacement installs, more plan members or a new service line. Each one starts in a different channel.
  • Your timeline Search and Local Services Ads book calls in weeks. Reviews, SEO and a maintenance-plan base pay off over seasons.
  • Your budget A smaller budget goes where intent is highest first. More budget adds reach before the peak, not just more of the same clicks.
  • Your competition A crowded Charlotte auction and a quiet market an hour away need different bids, offers and expectations.

Data picks the direction, checks every decision against booked jobs, and tells us when to change course.

  • Owner-operator, one or two trucks

Fill the schedule close to home

Google Business Profile, a review routine and Local Services Ads first, then a tight search campaign on the services with the best margin.

  • Growing shop, 5 to 20 technicians

    Even out the seasons

Search split by emergency and planned work, a maintenance plan built through email, and social ads before each peak to fill the shoulder months.

  • Multi-location or multi-trade

    Grow without the locations competing

One account structure across locations and trades, a landing page per service area, and reporting by location so budget follows the most profitable trucks.

If a home service company came to us, here is how we would start.

This is the pitch we would give a real client, built for a fictional Charlotte company with real search data. The business, its phone number and its website are invented. Sample data shows the kind of results a campaign like this tracks; it is not a client result and not a promise.

The keywords, grouped the way we would build the account

We would split the account by what the homeowner is going through, not by trade alone, so an emergency never competes with a quote request for the same budget.

Emergency plumbing

Highest urgency and highest click cost. Runs around the clock with call-only priority when the phones are staffed.

SearchCharlotte area / moEst. click cost
emergency plumber near me1,900$46.46 to $101.55
emergency plumber720$49.36 to $119.88
water heater repair near me1,600$28.15 to $72.73

AC and heating repair

The seasonal engine. Budget moves between cooling and heating terms as the weather turns.

ac repair near me2,400$14.03 to $80.00

Finding a company

People choosing who to call, not reacting to a breakdown. Reviews and the landing page do the selling here.

hvac companies near me2,400$15.00 to $70.04

Local Services Ads and the map

Plumbing and HVAC are both Local Services Ads categories, so the company would apply for Google Verified status and pay per lead rather than per click. We would set the job types it wants, the towns its trucks reach and its hours, and dispute leads that were not real customers. The same reviews feed its Google Business Profile, which carries the "near me" map results.

What each piece turns into, and how they hand off

  1. Search and LSA catch the emergency Calls from people with a problem right now.
  2. The map and reviews win the comparison "Near me" searches choose from the map and the stars.

How it is all tracked

  • Forms and bookingsOnline bookings and form leads recorded as conversions in Google Ads, Meta and analytics.
  • Booked jobs sent backJob status from the field service or CRM software goes back to Google Ads, so bidding learns from booked jobs instead of from any call.

Home service marketing in Charlotte, and wherever your trucks go.

We are based in Charlotte and plan home service campaigns around real drive-time service areas across the Charlotte region, including the fast-growing suburbs where new homes mean new systems to maintain. We also work with home service companies across the US; the method is the same, the search data changes with the market.

The mistakes we see most in home service accounts.

Most of the wasted budget we find in home service ad accounts comes from the same handful of decisions.

  1. One campaign for everything

Emergencies, repairs and replacement quotes share one budget and one ad. The expensive emergency clicks eat the money, and nobody can see which service actually pays.

  2. Counting calls, not booked jobs

A 20-second call from a job seeker counts the same as a booked install. Until job status flows back from the CRM, bidding learns to buy more of whatever calls.

  3. The same budget in January and July

Demand swings by several times across the year. A flat budget runs out in the peak and wastes money in the quiet months.

  4. Ads that land on the homepage

A homeowner with no hot water should land on a water heater page with a phone number, not on a slider about the company’s history.

  5. Local Services Ads left on autopilot

Wrong job types, a service area wider than the trucks can cover, and bad leads never disputed. Each one quietly raises the cost per job.

  6. No follow-up after the job

The customer who paid last month is the cheapest future job. Without plan renewals and reminders, the company pays to win them back from an ad.

Home service trades we plan for.

Each trade has its own search demand, seasons and customer value. Pages for each trade go live one by one.

Our analysis for home service companies

Questions home service companies ask us.

How much should a home service company spend on advertising?

It depends on the service area, the trades, the season and how many jobs the team can handle. We start from the searches in your area and their estimated click costs, set a budget that fits your capacity, and move it with the seasons once booked-job data shows what each channel returns.

Should we start with Google Ads or Local Services Ads?

Often both, because they show in different places on the same search. Local Services Ads charge per lead and sit at the top for "near me" searches in eligible trades; search ads give more control over services, towns and landing pages. The data decides how the budget splits after the first weeks.

Do you work with smaller home service businesses?

Yes. For an owner-operator, the plan usually starts with the Google profile, reviews and Local Services Ads before adding paid search, so the budget goes where intent is highest.

Do you only work with home service companies in Charlotte?

No. We are based in Charlotte and work across the Charlotte region and with home service companies across the US. The approach is the same; the search data and the competition change by market.

What do you measure to judge the marketing?

By booked jobs and cost per booked job, by channel and by service line. Calls and forms are tracked, but the number that matters is what turned into work on the schedule.

How fast will we see results?

Search ads and Local Services Ads usually start producing calls within the first weeks. Reviews, SEO and a maintenance-plan base build over months and seasons, and they lower the cost of every job after that.
