Pest control

Pest control marketing that follows the pest calendar

Pest control demand in the Charlotte area changes with what is crawling: termites swarm in spring, wasps build in March, roaches and mosquitoes peak through summer, and bed bugs follow travel season. We run search ads, Local Services Ads, your Google profile, social ads and email as one plan, and we judge it by recurring plans sold, not one-time calls.

  • 5xmore Charlotte-area searches for "termite control" in May 2026 (2,400) than in September 2026 (480)

The short answer

What does pest control marketing have to get right?

Pest control marketing has to turn a one-time pest problem into a recurring service plan, and it has to be in front of each pest a few weeks before its season peaks.

The pest control accounts we audit usually run one campaign on "pest control near me" all year and count every call as a win. The data says the trade runs on several calendars at once. In Charlotte, termite searches doubled from February to March and peaked in May, wasp nest searches jumped ninefold in March, roach and mosquito searches climbed through the summer, and bed bug heat treatment spiked in July. A termite inspection click starts near $13.65, a bed bug treatment click near $1.20. As a pest control marketing team we split the account by pest, move the budget a few weeks ahead of each season, run pest control ads with plan offers rather than one-off sprays, and build SEO for pest control around pest and town pages.

Generic pest control company marketing lists stop at reviews and a website. Our specialists work as your pest control marketing agency and measure every channel by the number that decides the business: first visits that convert to a quarterly, mosquito or termite plan, and the cost to win each one.

What pest control companies need their marketing to solve.

These are the pressures we see in pest control ad accounts and route schedules. They are why a pest control plan looks different from an HVAC or plumbing plan.

  • The first visit is not the sale

A single roach or ant call barely covers the truck. The business is built on quarterly plans, mosquito seasons and termite renewals, so marketing has to sell the plan on the first visit, not just book it.

  • Every pest has its own season

Termites, wasps, mosquitoes, roaches and rodents each rise in a different month. A single campaign spends evenly while demand moves from one pest to the next.

  • Termite work is worth the most

Termite inspections and treatments carry the largest tickets and renewals, and the most expensive clicks. They need their own budget, pages and follow-up so the spring rush is not wasted.

  • Shoppers looking for a spray

Many pest searches are people looking for repellent, yard spray or traps to apply themselves. Paying for those clicks drains the budget meant for homeowners who want a technician.

  • Trust before anyone enters the home

Homeowners let a technician treat around children and pets. A state license, pet-safe treatment options, Google Verified status and recent reviews settle much of the choice.

  • National brands bid on every search

Large national pest brands spend heavily on the main terms. A local company wins on pest-named and town-named searches, faster arrival and a plan built around the local season.

What pest control customers search, and when.

Monthly searches and estimated click costs for the searches a pest control company competes for. A yearly average hides which pest is rising, so the notes below the table read the monthly curve.

Termite season starts in March, not May
In the Charlotte area, "termite control" rose from 720 searches in February 2026 to 1,600 in March and 2,400 in May, then fell to 480 by September. "Termite inspection" followed the same path, 590 in February, 1,600 in May and 320 in September. The termite budget has to be live before the March swarms, not after the May peak.
Summer belongs to roaches and mosquitoes
"Cockroach exterminator" held at 3,600 searches a month from July to September 2026, against 1,000 in February and March. "Mosquito control" went from 110 in December 2025 to 1,000 in August 2026. Mosquito plans sell in spring, when searches first rise, and the roach budget grows as the heat arrives.
Short spikes for stings and bed bugs
"Wasp nest removal" jumped from 140 searches in February 2026 to 1,300 in March. "Bed bug heat treatment" ran between 260 and 390 a month from October 2025 to May 2026, then hit 1,600 in June and 2,400 in July before falling to 210 in September. Both need campaigns ready to switch on for a few weeks at a time.

Our approach: it depends, and the data decides.

A two-truck residential pest company and a multi-branch operator with termite, mosquito and commercial divisions need very different plans. Four things decide where a pest control plan starts.

  • Your goals More quarterly plans, more termite contracts, more mosquito season customers or more commercial accounts. Each one starts with a different offer, channel and landing page.
  • Your timeline Search ads and Local Services Ads can fill the route within days. Reviews, pest pages and SEO for pest control build over months and lower the cost of every later plan.
  • Your budget A smaller budget protects general pest and termite searches all year. A larger one adds seasonal campaigns that open ahead of each pest and close when its curve falls.
  • Your competition National brands and franchises bid hardest on "pest control near me". Pest-named, town-named and plan searches are often far cheaper per plan sold.

Data sets the bid for each pest, opens each seasonal campaign a few weeks before its curve rises, and moves money toward the first visits that turn into recurring plans.

  • Residential, 1 to 3 trucks

Fill the route with plan customers

Local Services Ads, the Google profile and a review habit first, then a general pest campaign that leads with a quarterly plan offer.

  • Pest, termite and mosquito, 4 to 15 techs

    Grow the higher-value services

Separate termite, mosquito, roach, rodent and bed bug campaigns opened by season, termite pages that answer inspection questions, and follow-up for every open estimate.

  • Residential and commercial

Add contracts that steady the year

A commercial campaign and pages for restaurants, property managers and offices, plus reporting by division so each one carries its own cost per account.

If a pest control company came to us, here is how we would start.

This is the pitch we would give a real client, built for a fictional Charlotte pest control company with real search data. The business, its phone number and its website are invented. Sample data shows the kind of results a campaign like this tracks; it is not a client result and not a promise.

How our specialists segment search demand by buyer intent

We would split the account by pest, because each one has its own click cost, season and plan value. Termite and mosquito groups can then rise and fall on their own calendars without starving the year-round work.

General pest and plans

The largest year-round volume. Ads lead with a quarterly plan offer, so the first call is priced as the start of a plan, not a single spray.

Termites

The highest click costs and the largest jobs. Opens with more budget in March, sends people to an inspection page, and every estimate gets follow-up.

Summer insects

Roaches, mosquitoes and stinging insects, each opened as its season starts. Mosquito ads sell the season plan in spring, before the August peak.

Urgent, inside-the-home problems with lower click costs. Call-first ads, and bed bug budget raised for the June and July spike.

How our negative keyword governance protects the budget

  • Bug spray, repellent and yard spray products
  • Mosquito dunks, traps and baits for sale
  • National pest brand names
  • Pest control jobs and technician licensing classes
  • Identification questions and bug pictures
  • Pet flea and tick products

In Charlotte, "deet bug spray" drew about 1,300 searches a month and "mosquito dunks" about 1,000, at click costs under $0.20, right beside the service terms. National brand names drew about 880 searches a month each. Our specialists load these exclusions before launch and read the search terms every week, more often when a season opens.

How we write and test the Google search ads

Each intent group gets message-matched ad copy engineered by our specialists to qualify buyers before the click and lift expected click-through rate.

Local Services Ads and the map

Pest control is a Local Services Ads category, so the company would earn Google Verified status after license, insurance and background checks, then pay per lead. We would turn on the job types it treats, from general pests and termites to rodents and bed bugs, set the towns the trucks reach, mark the hours someone answers and dispute leads for wildlife trapping, lawn weed control or towns outside the area. In spring, LSA is where the first termite calls land.

The Facebook ad

Mosquito plans are bought in spring, when the first bites arrive and searches start to climb, well before the August peak. These ads reach homeowners in the service area with a season plan offer while there is still a full season to sell.

The email

Termite estimates rarely sign on the day of the inspection. This follow-up goes to every open estimate a week after the visit, so the decision restarts with the company that already inspected the home.

  2. The map and reviews win the choice A licensed local name gets picked.
  3. Social sells the season plan Mosquito plans before summer.
  4. Email follows every estimate Termite work signs later.

How our team tracks calls, bookings and revenue

  • Calls tagged by pestTracked numbers per channel, each call tagged as general pest, termite, mosquito, roach, rodent, bed bug, commercial or not a lead.
  • First visit to plan rateEvery first visit followed to a quarterly, mosquito or termite plan, or a one-time job, so the plan learns which searches produce recurring customers.
  • Plan value sent backFirst-year plan values from the routing software go back to Google Ads, so bidding learns that a termite contract is worth more than a single wasp nest.
  • A monthly report by pestSpend, first visits, plans sold and cost per plan for each group, with each season marked so a spring month is not read against a winter one.

Pest control marketing in Charlotte, where the warm season runs long.

We are based in Charlotte, where long, humid summers keep roaches and mosquitoes active for months, wooded lots and crawl space homes give termites plenty of cover, and spring swarms arrive in March. Older neighborhoods, new subdivisions and lakeside towns each bring different pest pressure. We plan pest control campaigns around the towns your trucks reach and the pests each area sees most. We also work with pest control companies nationwide; where the season starts earlier or ends later, the plan follows the local curve.

Six growth leaks we fix in pest control ad accounts.

When we take over pest control accounts, these are the places we most often find plans and termite contracts leaking away, and what we change first.

  1. Selling sprays instead of plans

Ads that promise a one-time treatment attract one-time customers. We lead with the quarterly, mosquito or termite plan, and count a lead as won only when a plan is signed.

  2. Opening termite season in May

In 2026, Charlotte termite searches more than doubled from February to March and peaked in May. We raise the termite budget and LSA job types in early March, while the first swarmers send homeowners searching.

  3. Paying for do-it-yourself shoppers

Bug spray, repellent, mosquito dunks and yard spray searches look like pest control to the ad platform. We exclude them before launch, because a product shopper never books a technician.

  4. One budget for every pest

A flat daily budget overspends in winter and runs out during the summer roach and mosquito peak. We give each pest its own campaign and move the money as its curve rises and falls.

  5. Letting termite estimates go cold

Most termite estimates do not sign on inspection day. We set up email and text follow-up for every open estimate before spending more on new inspection clicks.

  6. Counting calls instead of plans

A wasp nest call and a termite contract look the same in a call count. We tag calls by pest and send plan values back, so bidding chases the customers who stay.

Questions pest control companies ask us.

How much should a pest control company spend on ads?

It depends on the service area, the pests you treat and how many routes you can fill. In Charlotte a general pest click starts near $10 and a termite inspection click near $13.65, so we start from your area’s searches and click costs, fund plan sales all year and move extra budget into each pest’s season.

Is pest control marketing different from HVAC or plumbing marketing?

Yes. HVAC follows the weather and plumbing follows freezes and emergencies. Pest control follows several pest calendars at once, and the real sale is a recurring plan, so the account, budget and tracking are built around each pest and the plan it leads to.

Should we buy pest control leads or run our own?

Shared leads are sold to several companies at once, so the first visit becomes a price fight and rarely turns into a plan. Leads you own, through search ads, Local Services Ads and your own site, reach you alone and build reviews and rankings you keep.

Does local SEO for pest control matter if we run ads?

Yes. Pest and town pages and a strong map listing bring calls without a per-click cost, which lowers the blended cost per plan. Ads cover the seasonal peaks while organic pages build.

Do you work with pest control companies outside Charlotte?

Yes. We are based in Charlotte and work with pest control companies across the US. The method is the same; the pest calendar, the click costs and the competition change by market.

What do you measure besides leads?

First visits booked, the first visit to plan rate, termite estimates signed and cost per plan by pest, with plan values from your routing software. A lead count alone cannot tell a single wasp nest from a termite contract.
