The short answer
Who should run your Instagram ads?
A team that measures customers, not likes, and makes ads that look like they belong on Instagram. Overtop Media Digital Marketing is a Meta Business Partner in Charlotte that builds every Instagram campaign around what a customer is worth to you.
Instagram ads run through Meta’s ad system, the same one behind Facebook. This page is about getting Instagram right: the placements, the creative and the creators. When Facebook belongs in the plan too, our Meta ads management runs both as one campaign, and our Google Ads team catches the searches your Instagram ads create.
- Meta Business PartnerA Meta Business Partner and a Google Partner, growing businesses from Charlotte since 2009.
- Creative made for InstagramYour own content first, then local photographers, videographers and creators booked directly, with no production markup.

What Instagram ads do for your business.
Six results businesses hire us for. Open each one to see how we get there and the evidence behind it.
Found by people who were not looking for you
People open Instagram to see what is new: a place to eat this weekend, an outfit, a contractor whose work they like, a product a creator swears by. Ads in Reels, Stories and Explore put your business into that moment, in front of people in your service area or across the country who have never heard of you, and keep you there until you are the name they remember.
In campaigns that included Reels trending ads, action intent rose more than 5 percentage points and unaided brand awareness 5 points versus people who did not see them (Meta brand lift meta-analysis, studies starting January to July 2026).
Sales from people ready to buy
For online stores we show each shopper the products they are most likely to want, with photos and prices pulled from your catalog, and follow them from the first look to checkout on your site. For shops with a counter, we connect ads to in-store sales, so you see more than the online clicks.
In a US test with 15 online stores, Shops ads had a 6% lower cost per conversion than campaigns that did not use them (Meta experiment, May 28 to June 17, 2025, 1-day click attribution).
Leads from a form that takes seconds
Instagram can open a short form with the person’s details already filled in, so a quote request takes a few taps. We add the questions that separate real buyers from browsers, send every lead to your inbox or CRM in real time, and teach the system which leads became customers.
Advertisers who ran both instant form and website form campaigns saw an average 60% lower cost per lead and a 125% increase in lead volume compared with website form campaigns alone (Meta meta-analysis of 22 A/B tests, January 2023 to April 2024).
Conversations in Instagram Direct
Many customers would rather send a message than make a call. Ads that open a chat in Instagram Direct let them ask about price, availability or a booking the moment they are interested. We set up instant answers to the common questions and a fast hand-off to your team, so no message waits until Monday.
74% of people surveyed have messaged a business after seeing their Reels (Meta-commissioned research with GWI, 2023: 6,758 weekly Reels users aged 16-64 in seven countries, 1,107 of them in the US).
Bookings, calls and visits nearby
For a salon, a gym, a restaurant or a home service company, the win is a booking or a customer through the door. We aim your ads at the neighborhoods and towns you actually serve, put the call, booking or directions button one tap away, and measure what happens after the tap, including the visits and sales that happen offline.
Meta found that five seconds of attention added up over a week drove 32% more offline sales than one continuous five-second view (Meta analysis of campaigns measuring offline purchases, October 2025, incl. US advertisers; retail and restaurants led).
Customers who come back
Most people do not buy the first time. We remind the right ones at the right moment: the visitor who looked at a service, the shopper who left a cart, the person who watched your Reels or messaged you, the customer due for a refill. Customer lists are encrypted before matching and never shared with other businesses.
Meta states that uploaded customer lists are securely hashed in your browser and never shared with other businesses unless you grant them access.
Every place your ad can appear on Instagram.
Reels, Stories, the feed, Explore and shopping each reach people in a different mood. We build creative for each one and let the budget move to wherever your customers respond best that week.

Boost the post, or run real Instagram ads?
The Boost button is the quickest way to show a post to more people, and it has its place. When the goal is customers rather than views, a managed campaign does a different job.
| Feature | Boosting a post | A managed campaign |
|---|---|---|
| What it is built for | More views on one post you already shared | A business goal: sales, leads, messages or bookings |
| Who sees it | Broad interests, or people like your followers | Your service area, your customer list, past visitors and people like your best customers |
| Creative | One post, as it is | Several versions built for Reels, Stories and the feed, tested against each other |
| Tracking | Likes, views and profile visits | Sales, leads and bookings from your website, CRM and phone |
| Follow-up | None after the boost ends | Reminders for people who visited, messaged or left a cart |
| Where it runs | Instagram, plus Facebook if you link it | Every Instagram placement, with Facebook added when it brings customers cheaper |
Already boosting? Keep the posts that worked: they are often the best starting point for a managed campaign.
Creative that looks like Instagram, made by people who know your market.
On Instagram the ad itself does most of the targeting: the right video finds the right people. That is why creative is the center of the work, and why we prefer real content and real people over stock.
- Your own content comes first
- Real photos and videos of your team, your work, your space and your customers look like the business people will actually meet. We help you capture what you already have and shape it into ads.
- Local photographers and videographers
- When you need more, we work with local photographers and videographers who know your kind of business, and we connect you with them directly. You pay them for the work, without the production markup agencies usually add.
- Niche creators your customers follow
- A trusted local or niche creator showing your product can do what a polished ad cannot. We find creators whose followers look like your customers, introduce you directly, and run their posts as ads from their account with your brand on it.
- Built for the format, then tested
- Vertical 9:16 video with sound, the point made in the first seconds, nothing important under the buttons, and several versions of every idea so the results pick the winner.
- 2xhigher delivery to the Reels placement for campaigns that included 9:16 video ads with audio, with key messages in the safe zone (4 million campaigns, March to May 2024).
- 19%reduction in cost per action when partnership ads from creators ran together with catalog ads (Meta experiment, about 2,400 advertisers, June 2025).

The right people, not just more people.
Reach is cheap on Instagram. Reaching the people who will actually buy from you is the skill. We combine Meta’s automated targeting with what we know about your customers, and keep refining it as the sales data comes in.
- Where your customers are
- Your city, the towns you serve or a few miles around your door, so a local budget is never spent on people you cannot serve.
- People who already know you
- Website visitors, people who watched your Reels or messaged you, and your customer list, each reached with the message that fits where they are.
- People like your best customers
- Meta’s system looks for new people who resemble the customers who buy most, and we feed it the results that teach it what a good customer is.
- Who to leave out
- Existing customers when the offer is for new ones, job seekers, people outside your area. Excluding the wrong people saves as much as finding the right ones.
Turn a message into a booking.
For service businesses, a message is often the shortest path to a sale. An ad that opens Instagram Direct lets a customer ask the one question standing between them and a booking, and get an answer right away.
- Ads that open a chat with a ready-made first question
- Instant replies to price, hours and availability questions, day and night
- A fast hand-off to your team when a real person is needed
- Every conversation tracked to the booking or sale it led to
- 74%of people surveyed have messaged a business after seeing their Reels.
- 1 billion+active conversations with businesses on WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram every day (Meta, June 2026).

Running WhatsApp or Messenger too? Our Meta ads service runs message ads across all three apps.
Proof, not vanity metrics.
Likes and followers are easy to buy. Customers are not. Every Instagram account we run is measured by the sales, leads, messages and bookings it produces, and by what those were worth to you.
- Every sale, lead and booking counted
- Privacy settings and ad blockers hide a growing share of results from the ad platforms. We send sales, leads and bookings to Meta directly from your website and systems, so your campaigns learn from what really happened.
- Your sales data closes the loop
- We connect your CRM, booking or point-of-sale system where possible, so Instagram learns which people became paying customers, not just which ones tapped.
- Tests, not guesses
- New creative, audiences and offers are proven in controlled tests before they get the budget. Where the budget allows, lift studies show what the ads caused that would not have happened anyway.
- Reports in plain language
- Sales, leads, messages, calls and bookings by campaign, with a short note on what changed and what we are doing next. Likes and followers are a side effect, not the result.
How we keep that data accurate is covered in our guide to first-party data and Meta attribution.
Instagram works best as part of the plan.
Overtop Media Digital Marketing is a full-service agency, so your Instagram ads are planned with Facebook, Google, your website and email, by one team from one Charlotte office.
- Instagram sparks itReels, Stories and creators put you in front of people before they search.
- Facebook widens itThe same campaign reaches Facebook too, and the budget follows the customers.
- Google catches itSearch ads and SEO are there when those people look you up by name.
- Your site and email close itA fast page turns the tap into a sale, and email brings the customer back.
Meta has published studies in which Facebook and Instagram campaigns lifted the number of people searching for the brand afterwards. When we run both, we plan them on one budget: Instagram builds the demand, and Google Ads makes sure you are the business they find. The same vertical videos often work twice, as Instagram Reels and as TikTok ads, and email marketing turns a first purchase into the next one. For products people plan ahead for, Pinterest ads catch shoppers while they are still collecting ideas.
Your plan, not a package.
There is no standard Instagram campaign. Four things about your business decide the plan, and from launch day the data decides what happens next.
- 1Your goalsSales, leads, bookings or awareness, and what one new customer is worth to you.
- 2Your timelineA launch next month needs a different plan from steady growth over a year.
- 3Your budgetSized from the goal, so it is big enough to learn and never bigger than the return.
- 4Your competitionWho else is advertising to your customers, what they show, and where they leave a gap.
- 5The data decidesMeasurement first, then weekly reviews: what brings customers gets more, what does not is cut.
If you are weighing where your next dollar should go, our guide to marketing budget allocation explains how we decide.

Our office is in Charlotte, and many of our Instagram clients are local businesses across the metro, where we already know the towns, the seasons and the competition. Questions about Instagram ads.
How much do Instagram ads cost?
There are two parts. The ad budget is paid to Meta and is sized from your goals: how many customers you want, what one is worth to you, how fast you need them and how competitive your market is. Our management is quoted separately once we understand your business, because every client gets a custom strategy rather than a package. Talk to us and we will show you what a sensible starting budget looks like for you.
Should I advertise on Instagram or Facebook?
Usually both, in one campaign. Instagram and Facebook ads run through the same Meta system, so we can show your ads on both and let the budget move to whichever brings customers at the lower cost each week. Some businesses lean heavily on Instagram, others on Facebook; the results decide, not a guess. Our Meta ads service covers the full picture.
Why are my Instagram ads not bringing in customers?
The usual causes are fixable. The audience is too narrow or too broad, the budget is too thin for the goal so the system never finishes learning, the ad looks like an ad instead of a post, the tracking counts clicks instead of customers, the page people land on is slow or confusing, or messages wait hours for a reply. We check each of these before changing anything else.
Do I need a lot of followers to advertise on Instagram?
No. Ads reach people who have never followed you, so a well-run campaign can bring customers to a new or small account. New followers often come along as a side effect, but they are not what we measure.
Who creates the ads?
We do, with you. We start with your own photos and videos, then bring in local photographers, videographers and niche creators when you need more, connected with you directly so you avoid the usual agency markup on production.
Can you work with creators and influencers?
Yes. We find local and niche creators whose followers match your customers, introduce you directly, and run their posts as ads that show both their name and your brand. That usually reaches people a brand account alone cannot, and you see exactly what the partnership brought in.
What kinds of businesses do well with Instagram ads?
Any business whose customers use a phone, which is nearly all of them. Restaurants, salons and gyms, home services and contractors, medical and dental practices, real estate, retailers and online stores, B2B firms and nonprofits all win customers on Instagram. What changes is the goal, the creative and the budget, not whether it can work.
Should I run Instagram ads or TikTok ads?
Often both. Instagram Reels and TikTok reach many of the same people with similar vertical video, so one set of videos can work on both. We plan them on one budget and move money to whichever brings customers at the better cost.
How long until I see results?
First leads and sales often arrive in the first weeks. Meta’s system needs a learning period, so the first month is about clean measurement and finding the winning ads and audiences. From there, the cost of each new customer usually falls as the campaigns learn and the best creative gets more budget.
How do you measure results?
By customers, not likes. We track sales, leads, messages, calls and bookings, connect your CRM or booking system where possible, and use controlled tests to prove what the ads caused. You get a plain-language report of what changed and what comes next.
Do you work with businesses outside Charlotte?
Yes. We run Instagram ads for businesses across the Charlotte metro, North and South Carolina and nationwide, from our Charlotte office.
