The short answer

What should a web design company do for your business?

Build a website that earns its keep. It should load instantly, work for every visitor, show up in Google and AI search, and turn visits into calls, leads and sales you can count.

That is how we build websites in Charlotte and nationwide. We plan each site around your customers and your numbers, design it for the phone first, and set up tracking before launch. Because we also run Google Ads management, Facebook and Instagram ads and SEO, your website is built to work with the marketing that sends people to it.

  • Speed you can test yourselfEvery page we launch is held to 100 in Google PageSpeed Insights, on mobile and desktop. This page too.
  • Built with your marketingWebsite, SEO, ads and email planned by one team, so every visit has a clear next step.

What your website has to do.

Turn visitors into leads

Most visitors leave without a word. We give every page one clear next step, keep forms short, filter spam out before it reaches your inbox, and send every lead to you with where it came from: the ad, the search or the email that brought it.

In a 50/50 A/B test, Vodafone’s faster landing page produced 8% more sales and a 15% better lead-to-visit rate (web.dev case study, 2021).

Make the phone ring

For many local businesses the best lead is a phone call. We keep a tap-to-call button within reach on every screen, show your hours and service area plainly, and count every call click, so you know which pages and ads make the phone ring.

16% of U.S. adults are smartphone-only internet users, with no home broadband (Pew Research Center, 2026). For them, your mobile site is your only site.

Take orders and payments online

Deposits, orders, gift cards or products: when customers can pay on your site, every extra step costs you sales. We keep checkout short, show the full price early, and make paying secure and fast on a phone.

Among U.S. shoppers who abandoned an online checkout, 19% did not trust the site with their card details and 17% ran into errors or crashes (Baymard Institute survey of 1,083 U.S. adults, 2026).

Fill your calendar

Restaurants, clinics, salons and service companies win when booking is easy. We connect your booking or scheduling tool, keep the steps few, and make every button respond the moment it is tapped.

After cutting the delay between a tap and the page’s response by 80%, real estate platform QuintoAndar booked 36% more property visits year over year, a gain it links strongly, though not solely, to the faster site (web.dev case study, 2025).

Earn trust in seconds

People check you out before they call. Real photos of your team and your work, reviews, credentials, clear service areas and honest answers do more than any slogan. We design every page so a stranger can tell, quickly, that you are real, local and good at what you do.

After reading positive reviews, 54% of consumers go to the business’s website next (BrightLocal Local Consumer Review Survey 2026, 1,002 U.S. adults).

Make every ad dollar go further

Paid clicks land on your website, so the page decides what each click was worth. We build fast, focused landing pages that match the ads pointing to them, so more of your paid visitors become customers.

Google calculates Ad Rank, which decides whether and where an ad shows, from many factors, including the bid and the quality of the ads and landing page (Google Ads Help, About Ad Rank).

What we build.

From a single campaign page to a full company website, every project gets the same standard of speed, accessibility and tracking.

  • Landscaper trimming the lawn in front of a brick home

    Service business websites

For contractors, practices, firms and local services: what you do, where you work, your reviews, and an easy way to call, book or ask for a quote.

  • Advisor smiling during a meeting with a client in a bright office

    Lead generation websites

For B2B companies and professional services: clear proof, focused pages and forms that turn research into qualified enquiries.

  • Smiling woman reading a page on her phone outdoors

    Landing pages

Fast pages built for one campaign and one action, so more of your paid clicks become customers.

  • Team sketching website page layouts on paper next to a laptop

    Website redesigns

A new site that keeps the rankings and links the old one earned, with every old page redirected.

We also fix and look after existing websites: speed rescues for slow sites, accessibility fixes, moves to a new platform, and ongoing care and updates. Selling products online? We build online stores as part of our ecommerce service. Want ideas first? See example designs by industry.

Fast is the first impression.

Speed decides whether your page appears before a visitor gives up, whether Google sees a good experience, and how much of your ad budget turns into customers. So we treat it as a requirement, not a finishing touch.

Loads in a blink
The main content appears almost at once on an ordinary phone, not only on a fast office connection.
Responds to every tap
Buttons, menus and forms react right away, even while the page is still finishing.
Never jumps around
Nothing shifts while the page loads, so nobody taps the wrong button.
Proven with Google’s own test
Every page we launch is held to 100 in all four Google PageSpeed Insights scores, on mobile and desktop, and you get the report at launch.
  • 8%more sales from the faster page in Vodafone's 50/50 A/B test, after the main content loaded 31% faster (web.dev, 2021).
  • 48%of mobile websites pass Google's Core Web Vitals in real-world data. The rest do not (HTTP Archive Web Almanac, 2025).

Built for every visitor.

An accessible website is easier for everyone to use, and it stops you from turning customers away. We build to WCAG 2.2 AA, the current W3C standard, and test before launch.

Keyboard and screen readers
Every link, menu, button and form works without a mouse and announces itself clearly.
Readable by design
Text contrast, sizes and spacing that pass the standard in every color of your brand.
Forms anyone can finish
Labeled fields, clear error messages and no puzzles between a customer and your inbox.
Images described
Every meaningful image carries a text description for people who cannot see it.
  • 95.9%of the top million home pages had detectable accessibility failures, with 56.1 errors per page on average (WebAIM Million, 2026).
  • 3,117website accessibility lawsuits were filed in U.S. federal court in 2025, up 27% from 2024 (Seyfarth Shaw).

Designed to turn visits into customers.

Good design is not decoration. It is the order in which a visitor sees your offer, your proof and the next step, and how little effort that step takes. In Nielsen Norman Group eyetracking research, people spent about 57% of their viewing time on the first screen of a page, so that is where your offer, proof and phone number belong.

One clear next step
Each page asks for one action, whether that is a call, a booking, a purchase or a quote request, and makes it impossible to miss.
Proof beside every ask
Reviews, guarantees and real photos sit next to the buttons, where doubts appear.
Built for the thumb
Large tap targets, short forms, and your phone number, email and address one tap away.
Tested, then improved
After launch we watch where visitors stop, and test changes on the pages that matter most.

How we test and improve pages after launch is covered in our conversion rate optimization playbook.

Measured from day one.

A website you cannot measure is a guess. Before launch we set up tracking for every lead and sale, so from the very first visitor you can see what works and what does not.

Every call, form and sale
Each one counted as a conversion in Google Analytics and tied to the page, search or ad that brought it.
Ads that learn from results
Conversions flow back to Google Ads, Microsoft Ads and Meta, so the campaigns find more people like your best customers.
Privacy done properly
Consent settings that respect each visitor’s choice, set up so Google can still model the conversions it cannot observe.
Reports in plain language
Leads, calls and sales by source, with what changed and what we are doing next.

Why browser privacy changes make this harder, and how we keep the data accurate, is explained in our guide to server-side tracking and attribution.

Your website is the center of your marketing.

Every channel sends people to your site. When one team plans them together, nothing is wasted.

  • Search brings themSEO and Google Ads put you in front of people already looking for what you do.
  • Social ads create demandFacebook, Instagram and TikTok reach people before they search.
  • Your website convertsA fast, clear site turns those visits into calls, bookings and sales.
  • Email brings them backFollow-up turns one purchase into the next one.

That is why we build every website with the campaigns that will feed it in mind. Landing pages match the ads that point to them, tracking reports back to Google Ads, Microsoft Ads and Meta ads, and the site structure supports SEO from day one. Short video for TikTok ads and Instagram Reels sends people to the same pages, and once someone buys, our email marketing team keeps them coming back.

Business owner and strategist planning a website together at a cafe table

Every business is different. So is every website.

We do not sell packages or templates. Four things decide your plan, and after launch, real data keeps adjusting it: what visitors do, which pages bring leads, and which searches and ads bring the best customers.

Your goals
What a new customer is worth to you, which services matter most, and what the site has to produce.
Your timeline
A launch date that fits your season, with phases when a date cannot move.
Your budget
Money goes first where it pays back fastest, and the rest can follow in phases.
Your competition
Before we design, we study who already ranks and advertises for your services in your market, using OVERTOP Search Intelligence.

How we build your website.

The same order every time, so nothing important is skipped. Scope, timeline and price are agreed in writing before work starts.

  1. 1Learn your businessCustomers, services, competitors and what a lead is worth.
  2. 2Plan from dataPages and content mapped to what people search for and ask.
  3. 3DesignYour brand, real photos and a clear path to contact, phone first.
  4. 4Build and testSpeed, accessibility, forms and tracking checked page by page.
  5. 5Launch safelyRedirects, Search Console and a speed report on the live site.
  6. 6Measure and improveLead and search data decide what we improve next.

Proof you can check.

We would rather show you than tell you. Each of these takes less than a minute.

Charlotte, the Carolinas and nationwide.

Our office is in Charlotte, and many of the websites we build are for businesses across the metro, where we know the towns, the seasons and the competition. We build the same way for businesses across North and South Carolina and across the country, and we meet in person whenever it helps. If you serve a local area, start with your town's page:

Questions about web design.

How much does a website cost?

It depends on what the site has to do. The biggest cost drivers are the number of pages and page types, custom features such as booking, quoting, payments or member areas, connections to your CRM or other systems, who writes the content and supplies the photos, and whether an old site has to be moved. We quote every project in writing after we understand your business, so you see the scope, timeline and price before any work starts.

How long does it take to build a website?

A focused landing page takes far less time than a full business website, and a large site with custom features, or a redesign with hundreds of pages to move, takes longer. What usually sets the pace is content: pages, photos and approvals. You get a dated plan with milestones before work starts, and when a launch date cannot move, we launch in phases.

Is hiring a web designer still worth it when AI website builders exist?

Builders can produce a page quickly. What they rarely produce is a site that loads instantly on a phone, passes accessibility checks, tracks every lead back to its source, and is planned around your customers, your competitors and your ads. If your website is how your business wins customers, those details decide whether it pays for itself.

What does a web design company actually do?

A web design company plans, designs, builds and launches websites for businesses, and often hosts, maintains and improves them after launch. At Overtop Media Digital Marketing, that also covers the strategy, page structure, SEO foundation, accessibility, tracking and the connection to your advertising, because a website is only worth what it brings in.

What is the difference between web design and web development?

Web design is how the site looks and works for the visitor: layout, content, navigation and the path to contact you. Web development is the code that makes it real: fast pages, forms, connections to other systems, security and hosting. We do both as one team, so the design never promises something the build cannot deliver quickly.

Will a redesign hurt my Google rankings?

Not when it is done carefully. Before launch we record your current rankings, traffic and leads, map every old address to its new page with a permanent redirect, and keep the content that already earns traffic. After launch we watch Google Search Console and your leads closely, so any problem is caught and fixed early.

Do I own my website?

Yes. Your domain, your content, and your analytics, tag manager and Google Business Profile accounts stay in your name, and we work in them with the access you give us. There is no long-term lock-in contract.

How fast will my website be?

Our standard is a score of 100 in all four Google PageSpeed Insights categories (performance, accessibility, best practices and SEO), on mobile and desktop, for every page we launch, with Core Web Vitals in Google’s good range. You get the report at launch, and you can run the same free test yourself at any time.

Will my website be accessible and mobile friendly?

Yes. We design for phones first, because Google ranks sites based on their mobile version, and we build to WCAG 2.2 AA, the current W3C accessibility standard. Before launch we test keyboard use, color contrast, form labels, headings and screen reader basics.

Will my website show up in Google AI Overviews and AI assistants?

No one can promise a place in AI answers. Google says AI Overviews and AI Mode have no special requirements beyond regular search: a page must be indexed and eligible to show in Search with a snippet. We build exactly that foundation, with crawlable pages, clear answers in text, structured data that matches the page and fast loading, plus a plain-language summary file for other AI assistants.

How do you track leads, calls and sales?

Before launch we set up Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager with your consent settings, count every form, call click, booking and sale as a conversion, and send those results to Google Ads, Microsoft Ads, Meta and your CRM where it applies. Every lead arrives with where it came from, so you can see which ads and pages bring in customers.

Which platform will my website be built on?

The one that fits the job. Most business websites we build are custom-coded for speed and security, so there are no plugins to patch. When your team needs to edit pages often, we set up a simple editor, and for online stores our ecommerce team picks the commerce platform that suits your products. We explain the choice in plain words before we start.

Who writes the content and provides the photos?

We can do both. We write and structure your pages around what customers search for and ask, and we help you capture real photos of your team and your work, because real images build more trust than stock. If you already have content, we edit it for clarity and search.

What happens after launch?

We keep watching. We check speed, leads and search performance, fix issues fast, keep the site secure and up to date, and improve the pages that matter most, based on the data. Many clients pair their website with SEO, Google Ads or social media ads, all run by the same team.

Do you work with businesses outside Charlotte?

Yes. Our office is in Charlotte, and we build websites for businesses across the Charlotte metro, North and South Carolina, and nationwide.
