Electricians

Electrician marketing that is ready when the power goes out

Electrical work in the Charlotte area runs on three clocks: everyday service calls, outages that send whole neighborhoods looking for a generator, and steady EV charger and panel projects. We run search ads, Local Services Ads, your Google profile, social ads and email as one plan, and we judge it by booked jobs and installs, not clicks.

  • 105xmore Charlotte-area searches for "generator for house" in January 2026 than in April 2026
  • 2,900Charlotte-area searches for "whole house generator installation" in January 2026, against 20 to 110 in every other month
  • $30.68 vs $4.16low-end estimated click cost, "emergency electrician near me" against "ev charger installation", in Charlotte
  • 140 to 320Charlotte-area searches for "ev charger installation" every month of the year, with no off-season

The short answer

What does electrician marketing have to get right?

Electrician marketing has to price three very different jobs correctly: the urgent repair call, the outage-driven generator install and the planned EV charger or panel project.

The electrical accounts we audit usually run one campaign on "electrician near me" and treat every call the same. The data says the jobs behave nothing alike. In Charlotte, an emergency click starts near $31, a charger install click near $4, and generator demand sat almost flat for eleven months before a single January jumped it by a factor of a hundred. As an electrical contractor marketing team we split the account by job type, keep an outage plan built before the next ice storm, run electrician ads for chargers and panels all year, and build SEO for electricians around job and town pages, then read every channel as cost per booked job and install.

What electrical contractors need their marketing to solve.

These are the pressures we see in electricians’ ad accounts and dispatch boards. They are why an electrical plan looks different from an HVAC or plumbing plan.

  • Outages create sudden demand

An ice storm or a summer wind event can leave thousands of homes dark at once. Generator and emergency searches jump overnight, and only a contractor with campaigns, crews and financing ready gets those first weeks.

  • Small tickets and big projects share one phone

An outlet repair and a standby generator install come through the same number. Without job-type tracking, the cheap calls fill the schedule and the large projects get the leftover attention.

  • Trust before anyone opens a panel

Homeowners know electrical work is dangerous. A visible license, permits pulled, insurance and Google Verified status do a lot of the selling before the first visit.

  • EV and panel buyers research first

A charger install often needs a panel check, and buyers compare quotes and timelines. They need clear pages on what the job involves, how long it takes and what the permit covers.

  • Generator buyers act after the fact

Most standby generators are bought after an outage, not before one. The contractor that stays in front of those households in the months after a storm wins the install.

  • Commercial work needs its own path

Property managers, offices and retail tenants search differently and buy on reliability and response time. Their searches need their own campaign, pages and follow-up.

What electrical customers search, and when.

Monthly searches and estimated click costs for the searches an electrical contractor competes for. A yearly average hides the outage months, so the notes below the table read the monthly curve.

One outage month outweighs the year
In the Charlotte area, "generator for house" drew 210 searches in April 2026 and 22,200 in January 2026. "Whole house generator" went from 170 in April to 6,600 in January. Outside that month, generator searches stayed in the low hundreds until summer storms lifted them again from July to September.
Emergency calls cost nearly five times as much
"Emergency electrician near me" carried a low-end click cost near $30.68, against $6.57 for "electrician near me". It also swings: 30 Charlotte searches in November 2025, 480 in September 2026. Emergency budget belongs to its own campaign with its own cap, not inside the general one.
Chargers and panels are the steady base
"Ev charger installation" held between 140 and 320 searches every month at a low-end click near $4.16, and panel replacement cost searches held between 40 and 70. They never spike, which makes them the work that keeps crews busy between storms.

Our approach: it depends, and the data decides.

A two-van residential electrician and a contractor with generator, EV and commercial divisions need very different plans. Four things decide where an electrical plan starts.

  • Your goals More service calls, more generator installs, more EV chargers or more commercial contracts. Each one starts with a different channel, offer and landing page.
  • Your timeline Search ads and Local Services Ads can fill the dispatch board within days. Reviews, install photos and SEO for electricians build over months and lower the cost of every later job.
  • Your budget A smaller budget protects service calls and charger installs all year. A larger one adds an outage reserve and a generator campaign that switches on when the power goes out.
  • Your competition Franchise electricians and lead sellers bid hard on "near me" searches. Job-named and town-named searches are often far cheaper per booked install.

Data sets the bid for each job type, raises the outage reserve when generator searches jump, and moves money toward the work with the best close rate and margin.

  • Residential electrician, 1 to 3 vans

Keep the board full every week

Local Services Ads, the Google profile and a review habit first, then a service call campaign with a firm cap on emergency clicks.

  • Service and installs, 4 to 12 techs

    Grow the high-ticket jobs

Separate service, emergency, EV charger, panel and generator campaigns, install pages with permit and timeline answers, and follow-up for every open quote.

  • Residential and commercial

Add contracts that smooth the year

A commercial campaign and pages for property managers and tenants, generator maintenance plans, and reporting by division so each one carries its own cost per job.

If an electrical contractor came to us, here is how we would start.

This is the pitch we would give a real client, built for a fictional Charlotte electrical contractor with real search data. The business, its phone number and its website are invented. Sample data shows the kind of results a campaign like this tracks; it is not a client result and not a promise.

How our specialists segment search demand by buyer intent

We would split the account by job type, because each one has its own click cost, timing and ticket size. The outage group can then surge for a few weeks without draining the charger and panel work.

Service calls

The largest volume, running every day. Call-first ads, reviews and a clear service area turn these into booked visits.

How our negative keyword governance protects the budget

  • Outlet and switch wiring diagrams
  • Breaker boxes and parts for sale
  • Portable, RV and camping generators
  • Utility outage maps and power company bills
  • Electrician jobs, apprenticeships and schools
  • Generator brand shopping and retail prices

Charlotte searches for "gfci outlet wiring", portable generators and breaker boxes sit right beside homeowner terms, and in January thousands of people search for the power company, not an electrician. Our specialists load these exclusions before launch and read the search terms every week, and daily during an outage.

How we write and test the Google search ads

Each intent group gets message-matched ad copy engineered by our specialists to qualify buyers before the click and lift expected click-through rate.

Local Services Ads and the map

Electrician is a Local Services Ads category, and Google screens it more closely because the work is urgent, so the contractor would earn Google Verified status after license, insurance and background checks, then pay per lead. We would turn on service, repair and installation job types, set the towns the vans can reach, mark the hours someone answers and dispute leads for appliance repair, low-voltage work or towns outside the area. During an outage, LSA is the first budget we raise.

The Facebook ad

Generator buyers decide in the weeks and months after an outage, not during it. These ads reach the neighborhoods that lost power, with an estimate offer, while the memory is fresh and before the next storm season.

The email

Charger and panel quotes rarely sign on the first visit. This follow-up goes to every open quote two weeks after the visit, so the decision restarts with the contractor that already checked the panel.

  3. Social and video sell installs Generators after every outage.
  4. Email follows every quote Charger and panel quotes close later.

How our team tracks calls, bookings and revenue

  • Calls tagged by job typeTracked numbers per channel, each call tagged as service, emergency, EV charger, panel, generator, commercial or not a lead.
  • Quote to install rateEvery install estimate followed to a signed job or a lost reason, so the plan learns which searches produce installs, not just visits.
  • Job value sent backInvoice amounts from the field service software go back to Google Ads, so bidding learns that a generator install is worth more than an outlet repair.
  • A monthly report by job typeSpend, booked jobs, installs and cost per booked job for each group, with outage weeks marked so they are read on their own terms.

Electrician marketing in Charlotte, where ice and wind set the outage calendar.

We are based in Charlotte, where a heavily wooded region means ice storms and summer wind bring down limbs and lines, and a single January can send whole neighborhoods looking for backup power. Older homes near the city still run on small panels, while fast-growing suburbs fill with EV owners who want a charger in the garage. We plan electrical campaigns around the towns your vans reach and the work each area needs. We also work with electrical contractors nationwide; where hurricanes or heat waves set the outage calendar, the plan follows the local curve.

Six growth leaks we fix in electrical ad accounts.

When we take over electricians’ accounts, these are the places we most often find booked jobs and installs leaking away, and what we change first.

  1. Emergency clicks with no cap

Emergency clicks in Charlotte start near five times the cost of a service call. We give them their own campaign, run them only when someone answers, and cap the spend so they cannot swallow the month.

  2. No outage plan on the shelf

In January 2026, Charlotte "whole house generator installation" searches were more than 25 times any other month. We keep generator ads, a landing page and financing copy built and paused, ready the day the power goes out.

  3. Counting calls instead of installs

An outlet repair and a generator install look the same in a call count. We tag every call by job type and send invoice values back, so bidding chases the jobs that pay.

  4. Selling chargers without the panel

Many charger installs depend on panel capacity. We pair the charger offer with a panel check on the page, so the quote is complete and the larger job is not lost to a cheaper bid.

  5. Letting install quotes go cold

Most charger, panel and generator quotes do not sign on the first visit. We set up follow-up email and text for every open quote before spending more on new clicks.

  6. Paying for wiring and power company clicks

Wiring diagrams, portable generators and utility outage searches look like electrical work to the ad platform. We exclude them before launch and dispute LSA leads for work the company does not do.

Questions electrical contractors ask us.

How much should an electrician spend on ads?

It depends on the service area, the jobs you want and how many techs can take them. In Charlotte a service call click starts around $6.50 to $10 and an emergency click near $31, so we start from your area’s searches and click costs, fund service and install work all year and keep a reserve for outages.

Is electrician marketing different from HVAC or plumbing marketing?

Yes. HVAC follows the weather seasons and plumbing follows freezes and emergencies. Electrical demand splits into everyday service calls, outage-driven generator surges and steady charger and panel projects, so the account, budget and tracking are built around each job type.

Should we buy electrician leads or run our own?

Shared leads are sold to several electricians at once, so the job is a price fight from the first call. Leads you own, through search ads, Local Services Ads and your own site, reach you alone and build reviews and rankings you keep.

Does local SEO for electricians matter if we run ads?

Yes. Job and town pages and a strong map listing bring calls without a per-click cost, which lowers the blended cost per booked job. Ads cover the outage surges and emergency calls while organic pages build.

Do you work with electricians outside Charlotte?

Yes. We are based in Charlotte and work with electrical contractors across the US. The method is the same; the outage calendar, the click costs and the competition change by market.

What do you measure besides leads?

Booked service calls, install estimates, the quote to install rate and cost per booked job by job type, with invoice values from your field service software. A lead count alone cannot tell an outlet repair from a generator install.
