HubSpot success story · Boat and yacht dealer
How a boat dealer grew same-store sales 19% by answering every lead in about 9 minutes with HubSpot.
MarineMax leads used to take hours to arrive and often went to the wrong store. A full HubSpot CRM now routes each one to the right rep, and the average response time is 9 minutes. Same-store sales rose 19% in two years.

The results.
Same-store sales growth is over the last two years, after the full CRM rollout. The pilot figure is one store, where the conversion rate for sales-qualified leads who put down a deposit rose from 3.52% to 6.81%. The company’s total revenue also grew over three years, but that growth includes acquisitions, so we do not count it here.
- 19%growth in same-store sales in two years
- 9 minaverage sales response time
- 93%higher 30-day conversion rate in a one-store sales template pilot
HubSpot does not publish a baseline period or method for these figures; they are the company’s own reported results.
The challenge.
MarineMax, founded in 1998, sells new and used boats and yachts through more than 70 locations nationwide, along with service, financing, insurance, storage, accessories, boating education and events. Each store sells several brands, and some reps are the only ones registered to sell multi-million dollar yachts.
With its old CRM, a web lead could take hours to come through, often reached the wrong store and sometimes went unanswered for days. Boat shoppers compare dealers, and in South Florida a buyer might have six to eight stores to choose from, so slow follow-up meant lost sales. Leadership could not see or enforce response times, and many reps kept their own paper systems and worried a new tool would mean micromanagement.
What they did.
Full HubSpot CRM · Lead routing workflows · Page-visit remarketing emails · Mobile app for reps
- One CRM for the whole business
- Marketing, sales and service data came together in one HubSpot CRM, building on the HubSpot email the company already used.
- Every lead to the right rep
- Custom routing workflows send each lead to the right store and the right rep, including the reps qualified to sell large yachts.
- A 30-minute standard
- The company set a rule that every lead is contacted within 30 minutes. The current average is 9 minutes.
- Follow-up based on what they browsed
- Reps see which pages a lead visited in the last few days and which emails they opened or clicked, then send pre-built, personalized emails about those boats.
- Built for the dock
- Reps use the HubSpot mobile app on the sales floor and at the docks, and text, chat, event and brand-lead tools all feed into the same CRM.
Why it worked.
Our read on the decisions behind the numbers, and what any business can take from them.
- First to respond wins
- When a buyer is comparing several dealers, the one that calls back in minutes gets the conversation. Nine minutes beats hours every time.
- Easy tools get used
- Reps adopted the CRM because it made their jobs easier, not because they were told to. A system nobody uses cannot speed anything up.
- Context makes follow-up personal
- Knowing which boats someone looked at turns a generic check-in into a useful conversation about the boat they want.
- Standards you can see
- With every lead tracked, managers can hold each store to the same response standard.
How we would run this play for your business.
You do not need a national budget to use the same ideas. This is how Overtop Media Digital Marketing puts them to work in our hubspot setup and management.
- Route leads in seconds
- We build routing by location, brand and rep in your HubSpot account, with alerts that make a fast response the easy default.
- Set and track a response standard
- We report response time by location and rep, so you can see who is winning the race to the customer.
- Follow up on what they looked at
- Templates and emails use the models and pages each lead viewed, through our email marketing setup.
- Bring in-market buyers
- Our Google Ads and Meta ads campaigns target shoppers by location and model, and every lead goes through the same routing.
Who this play fits.

- Boat, RV and powersports dealers
- Car dealers and dealer groups
- Multi-location retailers
- Home builders with sales centers
- High-ticket equipment dealers
- Any business where buyers compare several sellers
