Collision and body shops

Body shop marketing that wins the car before the adjuster does

Charlotte-area drivers search for a body shop nearby about 4,400 times a month, and most of them have already filed a claim or are about to. The insurer will suggest a shop; the driver still gets to choose. We plan search ads, your Google listing, social ads, email and your site so the shop is the name they already trust, measured in repair orders, not clicks.

  • 4,400searches a month for "body shop near me" in the Charlotte area
  • 1,900searches a month for one national collision chain by name, more than "auto body shop near me"
  • 21xmore "collision repair" searches in January 2026 than in October 2025, Charlotte area
  • $6.62 to $10.97estimated cost of one click on "tesla certified body shop" in Charlotte

The short answer

What does body shop marketing have to get right?

Body shop marketing has to make the shop the one a driver asks for by name when the insurer calls, then prove which estimates became repair orders.

Most collision accounts we review treat the shop like a repair garage: one campaign, a home page, every call counted as a lead. The searches say collision is its own market. In the Charlotte area, "body shop near me" draws 4,400 searches a month with clicks from $2.20, and a single national chain name draws 1,900. "Collision repair" jumped from 170 searches to 3,600 in January 2026, so the account has to be ready to surge. We plan collision repair ads, the Google listing, SEO for body shops, social ads and customer email as one system, measured in repair orders and their value.

Our auto body marketing specialists separate insurance collision work, cash dent and paint jobs and certified repair, so each pays only for the estimates it can turn into cars in the booth.

What body shop owners need their marketing to solve.

These are the pressures we see in collision ad accounts and estimate logs. They are why a body shop plan looks nothing like a mechanical repair or a towing plan.

  • Being chosen over the insurer’s pick

Adjusters suggest a shop at claim time. The shop the driver already knows, from reviews, the map or a friend, is the one that keeps the car.

  • Room to surge after bad weather

Collision searches jump for a few weeks after storms and ice. A fixed daily budget runs dry exactly when the most cars need a shop.

  • Cash work beside insurance work

Dents, bumpers, scratches and paint are paid by the owner. They fill booth time between claims and need their own ads and offers.

  • Certifications that sell themselves

Drivers of newer and electric cars search for certified repair by carmaker, and those clicks cost more because the jobs are worth more.

  • Trust after a bad day

A driver who just had a crash reads reviews closely. Photos of finished cars and replies to every review decide who gets the estimate.

  • Referrals that keep sending cars

Tow operators, dealers, fleet managers and agents send steady work. They are kept with follow-up, not with a single search ad.

What drivers search after the crash.

Monthly searches and estimated click costs for the searches a collision shop competes for. Volume alone hides who has a claim and who wants a can of touch-up paint, so the notes below read the curve and the click price.

The base is flat; the spikes are sudden
In the Charlotte area, "body shop near me" held between 3,600 and 4,400 searches in every month from October 2025 to September 2026. The collision terms did not: "collision repair" ran at 170 in October 2025, hit 3,600 in January 2026 and fell back to 260 in February. "Auto body repair" peaked at 1,900 in October 2025 against 110 in February 2026, and "auto body repair near me" reached 1,600 in May and June 2026 after 320 in January. A collision budget needs headroom to double for a few weeks, not a fixed monthly cap.
A cheap click is often a do-it-yourself shopper
An estimated "scratch remover" click starts at $0.14 and "dent pullers" at $0.26, because many searchers want a product, not a shop. "Paintless dent repair" runs $0.96 to $4.58, "body shop near me" $2.20 to $8.44, "auto body shop charlotte" $3.29 to $11.50 and "tesla certified body shop" $6.62 to $10.97. Insurance collision, cash dent work and certified repair each need their own budget, or product shoppers fill the estimate log.
Nobody searches the claim; they search a name
"Insurance claim car repair" shows no measurable monthly searches. Drivers are steered at the claim call instead, and one national chain’s name draws 1,900 Charlotte-area searches a month, more than "auto body shop near me". North Carolina lets the claimant pick the repair shop and requires an insurer that recommends one to say so (<a href="https://www.ncleg.gov/EnactedLegislation/Statutes/HTML/BySection/Chapter_58/GS_58-3-180.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">G.S. 58-3-180</a>). The shop has to be the name the driver already has in mind before that call.

Our approach: it depends, and the data decides.

A single independent shop, a certified shop on insurer programs and a multi-location collision group need different plans. Four things decide where a body shop plan starts.

  • Your goals More customer-pay work, less dependence on insurer referrals, more certified repairs or a second location. Each starts in a different channel.
  • Your booth capacity How many cars the shop can take a week and how long repairs wait for parts. The plan only buys the estimates the shop can schedule.
  • What each repair is worth Insurance collision, a cash bumper or dent job, or a certified structural repair. Their value decides what an estimate can cost to win.
  • Your competition National chains, dealer body shops and other independents bid on the same searches. Who sits on the map around your shop shapes where we compete.

Data sets the budget by repair type and by week, checks each channel against repair orders, and shows when to open the budget after a storm and when to move money into cash dent and paint work.

  • One independent shop

    Own the map nearby

A Google listing full of finished-car photos and review replies, estimate ads in a tight radius, and a page that takes photos of the damage.

Campaigns by carmaker certification, pages for each one, and outreach to dealers whose customers need certified repair.

  • Collision group

    Grow every location

If a body shop came to us, here is how we would start.

This is the pitch we would give a real client, built for a fictional Charlotte body shop with real search data. The shop, its phone number and its website are invented. Sample data shows the kind of results a campaign like this tracks; it is not a client result and not a promise.

How our specialists segment search demand by buyer intent

We would split the account by the repair the driver needs, because each group has its own demand pattern and click price. Budget then moves between groups, and opens up after a storm, instead of sitting in one pot.

How our negative keyword governance protects the budget

  • National collision chain and franchise names
  • Scratch removers, dent pullers and touch-up paint for sale
  • Body shop jobs, technician pay and training
  • Paint stores and automotive paint supplies
  • Mechanical repair such as oil changes and brakes
  • Insurer claim lines and policy logins

Collision searches pull in chain customers looking for their own location, do-it-yourself shoppers, job seekers, paint buyers, drivers who need a mechanic and policyholders hunting for a claim number. Our specialists load these exclusions before launch and review the search terms every week, so the budget stays on cars that need body work.

How we write and test the Google search ads

Each intent group gets message-matched ad copy engineered by our specialists to qualify buyers before the click and lift expected click-through rate.

The Google listing and the map

Most "body shop near me" searches end on the map, where drivers compare stars, photos and distance before they call the insurer back. The listing would carry each repair type by name, photos of finished cars and the paint booth, the certifications the shop really holds, and a reply to every review. Auto Body Shop is on Google’s list of Local Services Ads categories, but Google notes the verified badge is currently unavailable for auto categories, so we would test those pay-per-lead ads against estimate ads on cost per repair order.

  • Every estimate by group and sourceTracked numbers and forms per channel and keyword group, with photo uploads, calls and walk-ins recorded apart.
  • Repair orders, not estimatesEach estimate matched to a repair order or marked as a total loss, a price check or a car the insurer sent elsewhere.

What has worked for automotive businesses.

No ad platform has yet published a result for a body shop that we can show. These are the closest: automotive businesses whose results the platforms published. They are those companies’ published results, not ours; each shows what a collision shop can take from it, from reaching drivers near the shop to sending real sales back to the ad platforms.

Body shop marketing in Charlotte, built around storms, interstates and the claim call.

We are based in Charlotte, where I-77, I-85 and I-485 carry heavy traffic every day, and where an ice storm or a hail afternoon can fill every body shop in the region within a week. We plan collision campaigns around each shop’s real booth capacity and certifications, from uptown and South End to the suburbs and the towns along the interstates. We also work with body shops nationwide; weather, insurer programs, competition and click costs change by market, and the plan changes with them.

Six growth leaks we fix in body shop ad accounts.

When we take over collision accounts, these are the places we most often find estimates and repair orders leaking, and what we change first.

  1. Every estimate counted as a win

A total loss, a price check and a booked repair are not equal. We record which estimates became repair orders and send those values back to Google, so bidding stops chasing tire kickers.

  2. Paying for do-it-yourself shoppers

Scratch and dent searches start at a few cents because many searchers want a product. We exclude product searches and keep cash-repair bids on drivers who want a shop.

  3. A fixed budget when demand spikes

Charlotte-area "collision repair" searches went from 170 in October 2025 to 3,600 in January 2026. We set budgets that can open up for the weeks after a storm and settle back after.

  4. Leaving the claim call to the insurer

If the driver does not already know the shop, the adjuster’s suggestion wins. We build reviews, the listing and right-to-choose messages before the crash, not after.

  5. Insurance and cash work in one pot

Collision claims and customer-pay dent work have different values and searches. We run them as separate groups with separate offers and budgets.

  6. No follow-up with referral partners

Tow operators, dealers, fleets and agents send steady work. We set partner outreach and pickup review requests, so the next car arrives without a click.

Questions body shop owners ask us.

How much should a body shop spend on advertising?

It depends on booth capacity, the mix of insurance and customer-pay work and what an average repair order is worth. We start from the searches around your shop and their click costs by repair type, keep room to surge after storms, and adjust as repair order data shows what each channel returns.

Do Google Ads work for collision repair?

Yes, when the ads are split by repair type, the radius matches where customers drive from, and every estimate is matched to a repair order. Without that, product shoppers and price checks fill the log and the spend looks better than it is.

Can marketing win cars the insurer would send elsewhere?

Often, yes. In North Carolina the claimant chooses the repair shop, and an insurer that recommends one has to say the driver is free to go elsewhere. The shop that already has the driver’s trust, through reviews, the map and earlier ads, is the one they ask for.

Do Facebook ads work for body shops?

Not for the collision itself, because nobody plans a crash. They work to plant the shop’s name and the right to choose before the claim call, and to sell dent, bumper and paint work all year.

Do you work with body shops outside Charlotte?

Yes. We are based in Charlotte and work with collision shops across the US. The method is the same; weather, insurer programs, competition, click costs and state claim rules change with each market.

What do you measure besides clicks?

Estimates by source, repair orders, insurance and customer-pay split, average repair value and cost per repair order by channel, plus new referral partners. An estimate count alone cannot tell a total loss from a car in the booth.
