Auto repair
Auto shop marketing that fills bays with the right repairs
Drivers in the Charlotte area search for a state inspection far more often than for brakes, and car AC searches jump twentyfold from fall to July. We plan search ads, your Google listing, social ads, reminders and your site around those searches, and we judge every channel by repair orders and what each one is worth.
- 12,100searches a month for "car inspection near me" in the Charlotte area
- 21xmore "car ac repair near me" searches in July 2026 than in November 2025, Charlotte area
- $7.78 to $23.04estimated cost of one click on "ac compressor repair" in Charlotte
- 14,600monthly Charlotte-area searches for four national quick-lube and tire chains by name
The short answer
What does auto shop marketing need to get right?
Auto shop marketing has to win the first visit with a job drivers already need, then earn the larger repairs and the next ten visits through trust.
Most shops we review advertise everything at once: oil changes, brakes, engines, "all makes and models". The search data points somewhere more specific. In the Charlotte area, inspection searches are steady all year and cheap to reach, oil change searches are crowded with national chains, car AC searches surge in spring and summer, and the most valuable repairs carry the most expensive clicks. We plan auto repair ads, the Google listing, auto repair SEO, social ads and service reminders as one system, and we read the results as repair orders and average ticket by job type, because a door-opener inspection and a compressor replacement are different businesses.
What independent repair shops need their marketing to solve.
These are the pressures we see in repair shop ad accounts and on their service desks. They are why a shop plan is built differently from a dealership plan.
-
Trust before the first visit
A driver handing over the keys fears being oversold. Clear estimates, technician photos, warranty terms and recent reviews that name the repair do more for a first visit than any discount.
-
Door-opener jobs that lead somewhere
Inspections, alignments and diagnostics bring a car onto the lift. The shop earns its margin when the inspection finds worn brakes or a weak battery and the driver trusts the call.
-
Car AC season and the quiet months
AC work piles up from March to August while winter brings batteries and slower bays. Budget and offers have to follow that calendar instead of staying flat.
-
Competing with chains on the map
National quick-lube and tire chains sit next to every independent shop on the map. An independent wins on reviews, specialties and the advisor who explains the work, not on the cheapest oil change.
-
Customers who come back for years
One car needs service for a decade. Reminders tied to mileage and the last visit keep that car in your bay instead of the closest chain.
-
Calls answered while techs are under a car
Most repair customers call. A missed call during a busy afternoon goes to the next shop on the map, so call handling and online booking matter as much as the ad.
What drivers search when their car needs work.
Monthly searches and estimated click costs for the searches a repair shop competes for. The yearly average hides the seasons and the price of each job type, so the notes below read the monthly curve.
| Search | US / mo | Est. click cost, Charlotte |
|---|---|---|
| oil change near me | 1,500,000 | $2.27 to $6.61 |
| car inspection near me | 368,000 | $1.23 to $6.83 |
| mechanic near me | 673,000 | $2.11 to $7.09 |
| auto repair near me | 450,000 | $2.06 to $6.92 |
| mobile mechanic near me | 201,000 | $1.56 to $5.35 |
| car ac repair | 201,000 | $2.13 to $6.87 |
| wheel alignment near me | 135,000 | $1.46 to $5.52 |
| check engine light | 135,000 | $0.03 to $6.60 |
| brake repair near me | 74,000 | $2.43 to $9.40 |
| ac compressor repair | 60,500 | $7.78 to $23.04 |
- Inspections are the steady door
- In the Charlotte area, "car inspection near me" never fell below 9,900 searches in any month from October 2025 to September 2026, at an estimated $1.23 to $6.83 a click. North Carolina’s yearly inspection makes it the most reliable way to get a new car onto the lift, and every inspection is a chance to find the next repair.
- AC repair is a spring and summer business
- "Car ac repair near me" went from 90 searches in November 2025 and January 2026 to 1,900 in July 2026. "Ac compressor repair" climbed from 320 in January to 1,300 in June and July. AC budgets and offers belong in March, before the heat, not in August when the bays are already full.
- Bigger jobs cost more to win
- A click on "ac compressor repair" costs an estimated $7.78 to $23.04 in Charlotte, against $2.11 to $7.09 for "mechanic near me". Searches that name the job are worth the higher price because the ticket is larger, so we bid by job type rather than one price for every repair.

Our approach: it depends, and the data decides.
A two-bay independent shop, a specialty shop for European cars or diesel trucks and a group with six locations need different plans. Four things decide where an auto shop plan starts.
- Your goals More first-time customers, more high-ticket repairs, more fleet accounts or a full schedule in the slow months. Each starts in a different channel.
- Your bay capacity A shop booked two weeks out needs higher-value work, not more calls. A shop with open lifts needs volume this week.
- Your average repair order Ticket size by job type decides what a lead is worth and how high we can bid for brakes, AC or transmission work.
- Your competition Chains, dealer service drives and mobile mechanics shape each neighborhood. A shop near three chain locations plays a different game than one in a town with two independents.
Data sets the monthly budget by job type, checks each channel against repair orders and average ticket, and shows when to shift money from door-opener jobs to the larger repairs.
Independent shop, 2 to 4 bays
Win the map in your own neighborhood
The Google listing and a review routine first, then a tight search campaign for inspections, brakes and AC in the towns customers drive from, with reminders to every past customer.
Specialty shop
Own the make or the job you do best
European, diesel, hybrid or transmission work sold through search terms that name the make or the repair, with pages that show the equipment and the certifications behind it.
Multi-location or fleet service
Grow by location and by account
One account structure per location and job type, fleet and commercial accounts reached through search and LinkedIn, and reporting by store so budget follows the best margins.
If a repair shop came to us, here is how we would start.
This is the pitch we would give a real client, built for a fictional Charlotte repair shop with real search data. The shop, its phone number and its website are invented. Sample data shows the kind of results a campaign like this tracks; it is not a client result and not a promise.

How our specialists segment search demand by buyer intent
We would split the account by job type, because each one has its own season, click cost and ticket size. Budget then moves between groups month by month instead of sitting in one pot.

The Google listing and the map
Most "near me" repair searches end on the map, beside chain locations and dealer service drives. The listing would carry exact bay hours, each service listed by name, photos of the shop and the team, a booking link and a reply to every review. Auto repair shop is on Google’s list of Local Services Ads categories, but Google notes the verified badge is currently unavailable for auto categories, so we would test those ads against search on cost per repair order rather than count on a badge.
The Facebook ad
Social ads do not catch a breakdown. In March and April they reach drivers near the shop and past customers with an AC check, so the work is booked before AC searches climb in May.
The email
Every customer in the shop software has an inspection month and a mileage. Reminders tied to both bring the car back to your bay, and the inspection is where the next repair is found.

Based on your last visit, your car’s yearly inspection is coming up. Book a time online and we will check the brakes, tires and battery while it is on the lift, with a written estimate for anything that needs attention.

Auto repair advertising and marketing services, and which come first.
The four core services carry most repair shop plans. The others join when the shop is ready for them; a two-bay independent and a six-location group rarely need the same mix.

What has worked for automotive businesses.
No ad platform has yet published a result for an independent repair shop that we can show. These are the closest: automotive businesses whose results the platforms published. They are those companies’ published results, not ours; each story shows what a shop can take from it, from local targeting to sending real sales back to the ad platforms.
Auto shop marketing in Charlotte, built around commutes and inspections.
We are based in Charlotte, where long commutes, hot summers and the yearly North Carolina inspection keep repair bays busy. We plan shop campaigns around the neighborhoods your customers drive from, from the older streets close to uptown to the fast-growing suburbs where newer cars mean inspections today and larger repairs a few years out. We also work with repair shops nationwide; the inspection rules, the climate and the chains on the map change by state, and the plan changes with them.
Six growth leaks we fix in repair shop ad accounts.
When we take over repair shop accounts, these are the places we most often find repair orders leaking, and what we change first.
Fighting chains for the oil change click
In the Charlotte area, oil change searches cost about as much per click as repair searches and sit next to national chains with lower prices. We put paid budget on inspections, brakes and AC, and win oil changes back through reminders to customers you already have.
One bid for every repair
A compressor job and a tire rotation should not share a budget. We split campaigns by job type and send ticket values from the shop software back to Google Ads, so bidding favors the work that pays.
A flat budget through AC season
Car AC searches in Charlotte rise more than twentyfold from late fall to July. We raise AC budgets from March, run AC checks before the heat and pull back after August.
Paying for check engine questions
Check engine light searches have almost no ad competition because most of them are research, not shop hunting. We answer them with service pages and SEO, and save the ad budget for drivers ready to book.
No follow-up after the first visit
Many shops never contact a first-time customer again. We set reminders by inspection month and mileage from the shop software, so the second, third and tenth visit come back to your bay.
Reviews that say nothing
A page of five-star reviews that only say "great service" does little for a nervous driver. We build a review request after every repair order that prompts customers to name the job, and reply to each review.
Questions repair shop owners ask us.
How much should an auto repair shop spend on advertising?
It depends on bay capacity, average repair order and how many towns your customers drive from. We start from the searches in your area and their click costs by job type, set a budget that follows the AC season and the slow months, and adjust it as repair order data shows what each job type returns.
Should we advertise oil changes?
Usually not with paid search. Oil change clicks in Charlotte cost about as much as repair clicks and sit next to chains built on price. We use oil changes to keep existing customers coming back through reminders, and spend paid budget on inspections, brakes and AC, where an independent shop wins on trust.
Can a repair shop run Local Services Ads?
Auto repair shop is on Google’s list of Local Services Ads categories, but Google notes the verified badge is currently unavailable for auto categories, and availability varies by area. We check eligibility for your location and test those ads against search ads on cost per repair order.
Does auto repair SEO still matter if we run ads?
Yes. Pages for each service, make and town rank for the searches drivers make every month, and they catch research searches like check engine light questions that ads should skip. Paid search fills the bays now while organic pages lower the cost of every repair order over time.
Do you work with repair shops outside Charlotte?
Yes. We are based in Charlotte and work with repair shops across the US. The method is the same; inspection rules, the climate, click costs and the chains on the map change with each market.
What do you measure besides calls?
Repair orders, average ticket and cost per repair order by job type, how many inspections turn into approved estimates, and how many customers come back. A call count alone cannot tell an alignment from a compressor job, so ticket values from the shop software are part of the reporting.
