Constant Contact success story · Aviation museum

How a Dallas aviation museum raised $10,000 in under 30 minutes with one Constant Contact email.

The Frontiers of Flight Museum was still recovering from the pandemic when its new CEO arrived in July 2023. A regular newsletter rebuilt the connection with its community, and during a flooding emergency a single urgent email raised $10,000 in under 30 minutes.

Raise more money from the community
Vintage propeller airplanes on display inside a large museum hangar

The results.

The museum’s open rates consistently exceed its industry’s average by 5%, according to the story.

  • $10,000raised by one email in under 30 minutes
  • $300,000estimated revenue email helped bring in
  • $100,000+from North Texas Giving Day appeals
  • +13.5%email list growth

The $300,000 is the museum’s own estimate of revenue its email efforts contributed to, including the Giving Day appeals. Figures as reported in the story; Constant Contact does not publish how they were measured.

The challenge.

The museum sits on the edge of Dallas Love Field, with nine main exhibit spaces and more than 300,000 artifacts, including the Apollo 7 capsule. When its new president and CEO arrived in July 2023, events had stalled after COVID-19 and many people saw the museum as a static space.

The small team had a limited budget, and the tools it had used before were hard to work with, so outreach was inconsistent and opportunities to engage supporters were missed. The museum was not raising as much from its community as it could.

What they did.

Newsletter · Fundraising appeals · Event promotion · AI writing help

One newsletter, sent consistently
A regular newsletter became the museum’s direct line to its community, covering exhibits, events and the human stories behind the aircraft.
AI as a second pair of eyes
The team uses Constant Contact’s AI tools to check drafts for spelling and readability and to suggest ideas, which makes writing faster for a small staff.
Email behind every event
With more than 250 events a year, email now promotes exhibits, sells event tickets and drives attendance.
Ready for the urgent ask
Because the list was engaged and the habit was set, a single urgent appeal during a flooding emergency reached supporters who were already used to hearing from the museum.

Why it worked.

Our read on the decisions behind the numbers, and what any business can take from them.

Stories before asks
Months of interesting, regular updates built the trust that made a fast emergency appeal work. A list that only hears from you when you need money responds far less.
Consistency compounds
Regular sends kept the museum top of mind, grew the list and kept open rates above the sector average.
Big giving days need a warm list
More than $100,000 from Giving Day appeals came from people the newsletter had already engaged through the year.
Tools that fit a small team
Simple templates and writing help meant the program kept running without adding staff.
