Breweries

Brewery marketing that fills the taproom and sells every release

A brewery sells two things at once: an afternoon in the taproom and the beer you make. We plan your Google listing, search ads, social ads and mug club list around the patio season, each release and Oktoberfest, inside the alcohol ad rules, and we judge the work by taproom visits, event bookings and cans out the door.

  • 27,100searches a month for "brewery near me" in the Charlotte area
  • 1.8xmore "brewery near me" searches in May than in January, Charlotte area
  • 11xmore "oktoberfest" searches in October than in a normal month, Charlotte area
  • 8,100searches a month for one Charlotte brewery by name, almost three times "breweries in charlotte"

The short answer

What makes brewery marketing different from marketing a bar?

Brewery marketing has to sell a destination and a product at the same time: the taproom people drive to on a Saturday, and the beer that leaves in cans, kegs and growlers.

In the Charlotte area "brewery near me" draws about 27,100 searches a month, and it climbs from 18,100 in January to 33,100 in May as patios open. Guests also search breweries by name far more than by category, so the brand and the listing carry most of the weight. Every ad that shows the beer is alcohol advertising: on Meta, US alcohol ads may only reach people 21 and over (Meta alcohol ad policy), and Google limits where and to whom alcohol ads run (Google alcohol policy).

We plan the Google listing and search ads for the afternoon visit, social ads for releases and events, and email for the mug club, so the beer you brew this month has a crowd waiting for it.

What breweries need their marketing to solve.

These are the pressures we see in brewery ad accounts, release calendars and event books. They are why a brewery plan looks different from a bar’s or a coffee shop’s.

  • A season that starts in spring

Taproom searches build from March and peak in May, then hold through the summer. Patio, beer garden and outdoor pushes have to be live before the first warm weekend.

  • Releases that need a crowd on day one

A new IPA, a seasonal or a barrel-aged drop sells best in its first weekend. Without a list and a plan, the release goes out to whoever happens to walk in.

  • Alcohol rules on every channel

Meta limits US alcohol ads to people 21 and over, and Google restricts where alcohol ads appear and who sees them. Targeting, creative and the email list are built to both from the start.

  • Beer searches that are not about you

Beer distributors, cheap beer, home brew shops and tours of national breweries all share the words. A loose beer keyword pays for shoppers who were never coming to the taproom.

  • Families, dogs and groups

Many guests choose a brewery for the lawn, the food truck, the dog-friendly patio or room for a birthday. Those details decide the visit, and most listings leave them out.

  • A name people look up

Guests search breweries by name far more than by category. If the listing, hours and taplist are out of date, the visit goes to the brewery down the road.

The taproom year peaks in May
"Brewery near me" fell to 18,100 Charlotte-area searches in January 2026, came back to 27,100 in March and reached 33,100 in May, then held at 27,100 through September. The patio season is decided in March and April; a spring push that waits for June starts after the peak.
Oktoberfest is a six-week window
"Oktoberfest" sat between 480 and 590 Charlotte-area searches most months, then jumped to 5,400 in September 2026 and 6,600 in October 2025. "Oktoberfest near me" went from about 10 a month to 1,000 in September and 1,600 in October. The event page and ads have to be live by late August.
Guests search the brewery by name
One Charlotte brewery’s name drew 8,100 searches a month on average and 12,100 in December 2025, while "breweries in charlotte" drew 2,900. The name search, the listing and a brand ad that answers it are worth more than most category keywords.

Our approach: it depends, and the data decides.

A neighborhood taproom, a brewpub with a full kitchen and a production brewery with distribution need different plans. Four things decide where a brewery plan starts.

  • Your goals More taproom visits, bigger release weekends, private events, a growing mug club, or more stores and bars pouring your beer. Each one starts in a different channel.
  • Your timeline A listing refresh and search ads for the weekend move within weeks. A patio season, an Oktoberfest or a release following is built in the months before.
  • Your budget Most brewery clicks in Charlotte start well under a dollar at the low end, while Oktoberfest clicks start near two. The budget follows the season and the events, not a flat monthly line.
  • Your competition A taproom on a block of breweries competes on the reason to choose it this weekend; a destination brewery competes with every day trip in the region.

Data sets when the patio season and Oktoberfest budgets start, which releases deserve paid support, and ties every event booking and mug club signup back to the channel that sent it.

If a Charlotte brewery came to us, here is how we would start.

This is the pitch we would give a real client, built for a fictional Charlotte brewery with real search data. The brewery, its phone number and its website are invented. Sample data shows the kind of results a campaign like this tracks; it is not a client result and not a promise.

How our specialists segment search demand by buyer intent

We would split the account by why someone is looking, because a family choosing a Saturday spot, a visitor planning a brewery day and an Oktoberfest crowd make different decisions. Every group runs within a short drive, and the ads talk about the taproom, the food and the event rather than how much anyone drinks.

How our negative keyword governance protects the budget

  • Beer distributors and cheap beer deals
  • Home brew supply shops
  • Tours of national breweries
  • Beer festival tickets elsewhere
  • Costumes and party supplies
  • Brewery jobs

Beer searches mix taproom guests with store shoppers, home brewers and people planning a trip to a national brewery. In the Charlotte area "beer distributor near me", "cheap beer near me" and "home brew shops near me" each draw searches every month that a taproom ad would waste money on. Our specialists load these exclusions before launch and read the search terms every week.

The Google listing and the map

Most brewery visits are decided on the map, so the plan starts with the Google Business Profile: the right category, hours that change with the season, photos of the lawn, the patio and the brewhouse, posts for each release and food truck weekend, and a reply to every review. Breweries are not a Local Services Ads category, so the listing does that work on its own.

The Instagram ad

Social ads put each release in front of nearby beer fans before the weekend. Every ad is set to adults 21 and over, as Meta requires for alcohol in the US, and the creative shows the taproom, the food and the people rather than drinking.

Brewery marketing in Charlotte, from patio season to Oktoberfest.

We are based in Charlotte, where breweries cluster in South End, NoDa and along the light rail, and new taprooms keep opening in the towns around the city. A brewery has two markets: the people within a short drive on a sunny weekend, and the day-trippers and groups across the region planning a brewery outing or a party. We plan visit campaigns around each taproom and event campaigns across the area, from Huntersville and Mooresville to Concord and Fort Mill. We also work with breweries and brewpubs nationwide; the seasons and the state rules on alcohol promotion change, while the planning works the same way.

Six growth leaks we fix in brewery marketing.

When we take over brewery accounts, these are the places we most often find visits, releases and event bookings leaking, and what we change first.

  1. Paying for beer store shoppers

Broad beer keywords match distributors, cheap beer deals and home brew shops. We exclude them before launch and read the search terms weekly, so the budget reaches people looking for a taproom.

  2. Ads that stall in review

Drinking-first creative and open age settings get brewery ads limited or rejected. We build every ad to Google and Meta alcohol rules, set to adults 21 and over, and lead with the taproom and the event.

  3. A patio season that starts in June

Charlotte brewery searches climb from March and peak in May. We open the season in March, before the first warm weekend.

  4. Oktoberfest announced too late

Oktoberfest searches arrive in September and are gone by November. We have the event page, tickets and ads ready by late August.

  5. Releases that only regulars hear about

A release posted once on the brewery’s own feed reaches the people who already follow. We pair the mug club email with social ads to adults nearby, so new guests come for the first weekend.

  6. A listing that hides the reasons to visit

Food trucks, the dog-friendly patio, family hours and room for groups decide many visits. We put them in the listing, the photos and the website, where guests compare.

Questions brewery owners ask us.

Can a brewery run ads on Google, Facebook and Instagram?

Yes, inside each platform’s alcohol rules. Meta limits US alcohol ads to people 21 and over, and Google restricts where alcohol ads run and who sees them. We set the targeting and write the creative around both, so ads run instead of sitting in review.

Is search advertising worth it for a taproom?

Usually, within a short drive and in season. Most brewery clicks in the Charlotte area start well under a dollar at the low end, and the people searching are deciding where to go this weekend. We judge it by directions, calls, visits and event bookings, not clicks.

When should we start promoting the patio and Oktoberfest?

Earlier than most breweries do. In the Charlotte area brewery searches climb from March and peak in May, and Oktoberfest searches arrive in September. We open the patio season in March and have Oktoberfest live by late August.

Can you help sell our beer in stores, not just the taproom?

Yes. A beer finder on the website, social ads for each release around the stores that carry it, and brand search that points people to the nearest shelf all help. Distribution itself stays with you and your distributor.

Do you work with breweries outside Charlotte?

Yes. We are based in Charlotte and work with breweries and brewpubs across the US. The method is the same; the seasons, the local competition and the state rules on alcohol promotion change with the market.

Do you only do social media for breweries?

No. We are a full-service marketing agency, and breweries are one of the food and drink businesses we plan for. Search, social, email, the website and the Google listing work together on the same release and event calendar.
