Primary care
Primary care marketing for patients who stay for years
A new primary care patient is a relationship, not a visit. We plan your search ads, Local Services Ads, Google listing, social ads and email around the searches adults make when they need a doctor, the plan-year reset in January, and the ad policy and privacy limits every practice works inside.
- 720"pcp near me" searches a month in the Charlotte area, matched by "primary care near me"
- 260 to 480"primary care doctor near me" searches in the Charlotte area, December 2025 against January 2026
- 590 to 70"direct primary care near me" searches, November 2025 against April 2026
- $3.85 to $11.66estimated cost of one click on "primary care near me" in Charlotte
The short answer
What makes primary care marketing different from other healthcare marketing?
Primary care marketing sells the start of a long relationship: an adult choosing the doctor they will see for checkups, refills and referrals for years, usually by searching "pcp near me" and checking that the practice takes their plan and new patients.
One new patient can mean several visits a year for a decade, so a click that costs more than a walk-in clinic’s still pays. Primary care physician is one of the health categories that can run Local Services Ads, so a verified practice can sit above the search ads and pay per lead. Medical conditions are sensitive topics for ad targeting, so we reach patients through what they search and where they live, never through a diagnosis. We plan primary care advertising, the practice’s Google Business Profile, social ads, primary care SEO and patient email as one system, and judge it by new patients established, not clicks.
As a primary care marketing agency, we build family practice marketing around each provider’s open panel, the plans the practice accepts and the months new patients actually look.
What primary care practices need their marketing to solve.
These are the pressures we see in primary care and family medicine accounts, from a two-physician office to a group with providers across the region. They are why a primary care plan looks nothing like a walk-in clinic’s.
-
Open panels, not open hours
Demand only helps when a provider has room for new patients. Spend has to follow whose panel is open, and stop when it fills.
-
Insurance decides the shortlist
Adults rule a practice in or out on whether it takes their plan, and many never call to ask. The plans accepted have to be visible everywhere.
-
A patient worth years of visits
Annual physicals, chronic care follow-ups and referrals make the first appointment the cheapest part of the relationship.
-
A January plan-year reset
New insurance plans, new employers and moves send adults looking for a doctor in January more than in any other month.
-
Hospital systems on every search
Large systems own brand searches and much of the map. An independent practice wins on access, continuity and a doctor patients can name.
-
Measuring without the chart
A booked new patient appointment can be counted. Conditions, medications and anything typed in an intake form never belong in an ad platform.
What adults search when they need a primary care doctor, and when.
Monthly searches and estimated click costs for the searches a primary care practice competes for. The volume is spread across many ways of asking for the same doctor, and the click costs sit well above walk-in care.
| Search | US / mo | Est. click cost, Charlotte |
|---|---|---|
| pcp near me | 90,500 | $3.42 to $12.08 |

| concierge doctor near me | 12,100 | $1.66 to $7.97 |
- January is when adults pick a doctor
- "Primary care doctor near me" rose from 260 Charlotte searches in December 2025 to 480 in January 2026, "pcp near me" from 590 to 880 and "family medicine near me" from 170 to 320. New plans and new jobs start the year, and the practice that is visible with open panels that month collects patients for years.
- Few patients type "accepting new patients"
- "Doctors near me accepting new patients" averaged 90 Charlotte searches a month, against 720 each for "pcp near me" and "primary care near me". Patients assume the question and leave when the answer is missing, so new patient status belongs in the ads, the listing and the first line of the landing page.
- Membership practices run on enrollment season
- "Direct primary care near me" reached 590 searches in November 2025 and 320 in October, then fell to 70 by April 2026, while concierge searches held near 140 all year at clicks from $1.66. A membership practice funds the fall open-enrollment weeks; an insurance-based practice leans into January.

Our approach: it depends, and the data decides.
A solo family physician, a multi-provider internal medicine group and a direct primary care membership practice need different plans. Four things decide where a primary care plan starts.
- Your goals Fill a new provider’s panel, open a second office, grow Medicare-age patients, add annual physicals or launch a membership model. Each starts with its own keyword group, listing and page.
- Your timeline Local Services Ads and search ads can book new patient appointments within weeks. Reviews, provider pages and rankings for "family doctor" searches compound over months.
- Your budget With clicks on the main primary care searches starting between $2.87 and $4.27 in Charlotte, a smaller budget concentrates on Local Services Ads, the providers with open panels and the January weeks.
- Your competition Hospital-owned practices bid on most of the same searches. An independent practice wins with same-week new patient visits, a named doctor, plans clearly listed and reviews about being listened to.
Data sets the budget by provider, by office and by month, ties every booked new patient appointment to the search, listing or ad that started it without the reason for the visit, and shows which patients stay past the first year.
Independent practice
Fill the panels you have
Local Services Ads, a complete Google profile per office, a "primary care near me" campaign aimed at open panels and a landing page that leads with plans accepted.
Multi-provider group
Market each doctor, not just the brand
Provider pages and listings, budgets that follow each panel’s openings, and reporting by office so a full practice never hides one with room.
Direct primary care or concierge
Sell the membership, not the visit
Search and social built around access and time with the doctor, funded hardest in October and November, with email that turns inquiries into members.
If a family practice came to us, here is how we would start.
This is the pitch we would give a real client, built for a fictional Charlotte family practice with real search data. The business, its phone number and its website are invented. Sample data shows the kind of results a campaign like this tracks; it is not a client result and not a promise.

How our specialists segment search demand by buyer intent
We would split the account by how the patient asks for a doctor, because each group has its own click cost, page and calendar. Budget then moves to the providers with open panels and to the January weeks.

How our negative keyword governance protects the budget
- Hospital system and other practice names
- Urgent care, walk-in and emergency searches
- Lab chains and standalone blood work
- Physician jobs, residencies and locum work
- Veterinary and pet doctor searches
- Symptom and medication research
Primary care searches attract brand searches for other systems, patients who need care today, lab shoppers, recruiters and people reading about symptoms. Our specialists load these exclusions before launch and review the search terms every week, so the budget reaches adults looking for a doctor to keep.
How we write and test the Google search ads
Each intent group gets message-matched ad copy engineered by our specialists to qualify buyers before the click and lift expected click-through rate.

Local Services Ads and the map
Primary care physician is one of the health care categories that can run Local Services Ads in the US. The practice completes Google’s checks for its physicians, and once approved its ad shows a Google Verified badge above the search ads and is charged per lead, not per click. We would list the services, hours and the plans the practice takes, and dispute leads that were not real patients. The same reviews feed the Google Business Profile that carries the map, where a "new patients welcome" note, provider photos and plans accepted decide the call. Every review gets a reply that never confirms someone is a patient.
The Facebook ad
Social ads keep the practice known in the neighborhoods around it, so its name is familiar when someone changes plans or moves in. Meta does not allow ads that assert or imply a viewer’s health, so the ad talks about the practice, its access and its doctors, and targets by location, never by health interests.
The email
This goes only to established patients who agreed to receive email, sent from the practice’s own system, and it names a routine visit, never a condition or past appointment. A late December send catches the plan-year reset and keeps patients from drifting to another practice when their coverage changes.

A new patient wants two answers before anything else: will this practice take my plan, and can I get in soon. The page answers both above the fold, lists the plans in full below, and keeps the request form to a name, a phone number, the plan and a preferred time, leaving medical history for the intake visit.

Primary care digital marketing services, and which come first.

Primary care marketing in Charlotte, provider by provider.
We are based in Charlotte, where large hospital systems own many primary care offices and independent and membership practices compete for the same adults in the suburbs around the city. We plan each office on its own neighborhoods, each provider on their own panel, and put the heaviest weeks in January when new plans start, with membership practices funded through the fall enrollment season. We also work with primary care practices nationwide; the payers, state rules, the systems that dominate and the competition change by market, and the plan changes with them.
Six growth leaks we fix in primary care ad accounts.
When we take over primary care accounts, these are the places we most often find new patients leaking, and what we change first.
Ads running for full panels
Paying for clicks on a doctor who cannot take new patients sends people to a waitlist and a poor first impression. We tie spend to each provider’s open panel and pause it the week the panel fills.
Plans accepted hidden on a separate page
Adults check insurance before they call and leave when it takes more than a glance. We put the plans in the ads, the listing and the top of the landing page.
A flat budget across the year
"Primary care doctor near me" nearly doubled from December to January in Charlotte. We weight budget toward January and toward the weeks after local employers change plans.
Paying for urgent care searches
Walk-in and "open now" searches bring patients who need care today, not a doctor for years. We exclude them so the account buys relationships, not one-off visits.
Skipping Local Services Ads
Primary care is one of the health categories eligible for Local Services Ads, yet many practices never finish verification. We complete it so the practice appears above the search ads and pays per lead.
Review replies that confirm care
A reply that names a patient’s condition or doctor confirms care they never agreed to share. We set a reply standard that thanks reviewers in general terms and moves details to a phone call.
Questions primary care practices ask us.
How much should a primary care practice spend on advertising?
It depends on how many providers have open panels, how many offices you run and how fast you want those panels to fill. Clicks on the main primary care searches in Charlotte start around $3 to $4, so we set the budget by provider and month, weighted toward January, and adjust it as new patient data comes in.
When do patients look for a new primary care doctor?
All year, with a January rise. In the Charlotte area "primary care doctor near me" went from 260 searches in December 2025 to 480 in January 2026, as new insurance plans and jobs start. Membership practices see their own peak in October and November.
Can primary care practices run Local Services Ads?
Yes. Primary care physician is one of the health care categories Google lists for Local Services Ads in the US. The practice completes Google’s checks for its physicians, then appears above the search ads with a Google Verified badge and pays per lead.
Can we target ads to people with a specific condition?
No. Google and Meta treat health conditions as sensitive, so ads cannot target people by diagnosis or imply what a viewer has. We target searches and neighborhoods, write about the practice and its access, and keep health details out of audience lists.
Do you work with practices outside Charlotte?
Yes. We are based in Charlotte and work with primary care, family medicine and internal medicine practices across the US. The method is the same; the click costs, the payers, state rules and the competition change by market.
What do you measure besides clicks?
Calls, Local Services Ads leads, booking requests, new patients established, cost per new patient and the share who return for a second visit, reported by provider and by office.
