Trade and vocational schools

Trade school marketing that fills every start date, program by program

Career changers search for the trade or the credential, such as welding, HVAC or medical assistant, and each one has its own price per click. We plan search, maps, social video, landing pages and admissions follow-up for each program, and we judge them by campus tours and enrolled students.

  • 1,900Charlotte-area searches a month for "trade school", never below 1,600 in any month of the year
  • 5.7xlow-end click cost of "medical assistant program" ($6.85) against "cdl school" ($1.20) in Charlotte
  • 720Charlotte-area searches a month for "welding school", more than "hvac school" and "electrician school" combined
  • 4.7xrise in Charlotte searches for "paid cdl training near me", from 30 in November 2025 to 140 in January 2026

The short answer

What makes trade school marketing different from college marketing?

Trade school marketing sells a short path to a trade, so it is planned around each program’s own search terms, click costs and start dates, and measured by campus tours and enrolled students rather than form fills.

In the career school accounts we review, three things usually cost the most: one campaign for every program even though a welding click and a medical assistant click differ several times in price, ads that promise jobs or pay the school cannot document, and no link between the ad platforms and the enrollment office. Google’s misrepresentation policy covers claims an advertiser cannot back up. We build search campaigns by trade, program pages and SEO for trade schools, maps, short video and admissions follow-up as one enrollment path, and report cost per tour and per enrolled student.

What trade and vocational schools need their marketing to solve.

These are the pressures we see in welding, HVAC, electrical, CDL, medical assistant and cosmetology programs. They are why a career school plan looks nothing like a university plan.

  • Each trade is its own market

A future welder, a future phlebotomist and a future truck driver search different words, compare different schools and cost different amounts to reach. Each program needs its own budget and its own page.

  • Frequent start dates

Many programs start every few weeks or every month. A seat left empty at a start date is lost, so spend has to rise when a class is filling and ease off once it is full.

  • Career changers with bills to pay

Most prospects are adults leaving another job. They want program length, schedule, total cost and what happens after training answered before they visit.

  • Credential searches, not school names

People type "cdl training", "hvac certification" or "medical assistant program", rarely the name of a school. The school that shows up for the credential gets the tour.

  • A shop or lab people want to see

Prospects want to see the welding booths, the training rigs or the clinical lab before they sign. The campus tour is the step that decides enrollment.

  • Claims a regulator can check

Placement rates, pay and licensing outcomes must be documented. Ads and pages that overstate them invite disapprovals and complaints, so every claim needs a source.

No summer peak: trade searches rise in October and January
"trade school" drew 2,400 Charlotte-area searches in October 2025, January 2026 and March 2026, and dipped to 1,600 in June and July 2026. "medical assistant program" peaked at 1,900 in January 2026. Career changers decide when a job ends or a year starts, not on an academic calendar, so trade school budgets run all year and lean into fall and the new year.
The trade sets the price of a click
"cdl school" starts at $1.20 a click in Charlotte and tops out at $3.54. "medical assistant program" starts at $6.85 and reaches $28.02, and "welding school" runs from $3.14 to $28.61. One shared budget lets the cheap trades crowd out the valuable ones, or the expensive ones drain the rest.
CDL schools compete with carriers that pay trainees
"paid cdl training near me" went from 30 Charlotte searches in November 2025 to 140 in January 2026 and stayed near that level through September. National carriers offering company-paid training are searched by name too. A CDL school has to show why paying for training is worth it: schedule, choice of employer and time to license.

Our approach: it depends, and the data decides.

A welding school filling a monthly start and a healthcare career school adding a phlebotomy program need different plans. Four things decide where a trade school plan starts.

  • Your goals Fill the next start date, launch a new program, add an evening cohort or lower the cost per enrolled student. Each one points to a different trade and a different landing page.
  • Your timeline Search and maps can bring tours for the next start within weeks. Program pages and SEO for trade schools build over several cohorts and lower the cost of every later one.
  • Your program economics Tuition, program length and seats per start set what a tour and an enrollment can cost. A longer electrical program can carry a higher cost per click than a short certificate.
  • Your competition Community colleges, national career schools and employers that train for free all bid on the same searches. We find the trades and neighborhoods where your shop, schedule or start dates win.

Data sets a budget for each program from its own searches and click costs, ties each tour to the search, page or ad that started it, and shows which trades enroll students who finish.

How our specialists segment search demand by buyer intent

We would split the account by trade, because each one draws a different person at a different price per click, with its own start dates. Each group gets its own budget, its own landing page and its own enrollment value, so money follows the programs with open seats.

Welding

The largest skilled trade search in Charlotte after the general terms, with a wide gap between low and top click costs. We bid for the top spots only on tour-ready terms such as "near me".

SearchCharlotte area / moEst. click cost
welding school720$3.14 to $28.61
welding classes near me480$2.73 to $20.97

HVAC technician

Cheaper clicks and steady demand. The certification terms cost about a dollar and bring people who already know the credential they want.

SearchCharlotte area / moEst. click cost
hvac school320$2.08 to $18.60
hvac training program260$1.94 to $12.39

hvac certification170$1.07 to $9.58
epa 60890$0.64 to $2.76

Medical assistant and phlebotomy

The most expensive group and the largest healthcare search, peaking in January. Budget is weighted to the new year and to the weeks before each cohort starts.

phlebotomy training near me320$2.00 to $10.35

Local trade school searches

The biggest searches in the plan, from people who know they want a trade but not which one. They land on a page that compares the programs side by side.

How our negative keyword governance protects the budget

  • Job seekers looking for welder or technician openings
  • Free classes and grant-only searches
  • Trades Brasswell does not teach
  • Named carriers and their paid training programs
  • Online-only certificate searches
  • Exam answer, practice test and study guide searches

Many trade searches come from people looking for a job in the trade, not training for it. Our specialists exclude job, free class and exam prep searches before launch, and review search terms every week so the budget reaches people ready to tour.

How we write and test the Google search ads

Each intent group gets message-matched ad copy engineered by our specialists to qualify buyers before the click and lift expected click-through rate.

The campus listing and the map

"Trade schools near me" and "welding classes near me" bring up a map before the ads, and prospects pick the schools they can reach after work. The campus listing would show each program, the admissions hours, real photos of the shop and the clinical lab, parking and a link straight to tour booking. Reviews from graduates weigh heavily; we ask after graduation, never in exchange for anything, and reply to each one.

Trade school marketing from Charlotte, for career schools everywhere.

We are based in Charlotte, where manufacturing, construction, logistics and a large hospital network keep employers looking for welders, technicians, drivers and medical assistants. Trade searches here hold up in every month of the year, and most prospects choose a school they can reach after work, so we plan around the counties a campus draws from, from Mecklenburg to Gaston, Cabarrus and York. We also work with trade and career schools nationwide, with each campaign built on its own market’s data.

Six enrollment leaks we fix in trade school ad accounts.

When we take over career school accounts, these are the leaks we find most often, and what we change first.

  1. One budget for every trade

A medical assistant click can cost five times a CDL click. We give each program its own budget, set from its searches, click costs and seats per start.

  2. Buying job seekers instead of students

"Welder" and "hvac technician" searches are often people looking for work, not training. We keep those out with negatives and write ads that say training plainly.

  3. Promising jobs and pay in ads

Placement and salary claims the school cannot document get ads disapproved and draw complaints. We use public career data and documented outcomes only.

  4. Sending every click to the homepage

A future phlebotomist wants the program length, schedule and next start, not a list of every trade. We build a page for each program with one next step: a tour.

  5. Counting inquiries, not tours

Many inquiries never visit. We send tours attended and enrollments back to the ad platforms, so bidding learns which people show up and sign.

  6. Going quiet between start dates

Trade searches do not stop in summer, and a missed month empties a later start. We keep a steady base and add budget when a class is filling.

Questions trade school owners and admissions directors ask us.

What should a trade school spend on ads?

It depends on the programs, tuition, how many seats each start has and how crowded each trade’s searches are. We set a budget for each program from its own searches and click costs, then move money as tour and enrollment data show which trades return the most.

Can we advertise job placement rates?

Only rates the school can document, stated the way its accreditor and regulators require. Google’s ad policies and consumer protection rules cover claims about jobs and pay, so we write ads around programs, schedules, start dates and hands-on training, and cite public career data where outcomes come up.

How do you compete with employers offering free training?

We do not hide from it. Searches for paid CDL training rose sharply in early 2026, so CDL ads and pages explain what a school offers that a carrier does not: a schedule that fits, a choice of employer after licensing and support through the test.

Which programs should we advertise first?

The ones with open seats at the next start and the best balance of searches, click cost and tuition. In Charlotte, welding and medical assistant searches are the largest, HVAC certification terms are among the cheapest, and the data for your market decides the order.

Do you work with trade schools outside Charlotte?

Yes. As a trade school advertising agency based in Charlotte, we work with career and technical schools across the US. The method stays the same; the trades, competitors and click costs change by market.

What do you report besides leads?

Tours attended, enrollments, starts and cost per enrolled student for each program and channel, set against the seats left in each upcoming start. An inquiry count alone cannot tell a curious browser from someone ready to start next month.
