Online courses and coaching
Online course marketing that fills programs, not just webinar seats
People rarely search for a course by name. They search for a coach, a certification or a change in their life, in a few short seasons a year. We plan search, social video, webinars, landing pages and email around those seasons, and we judge every channel by the clients and enrollments it brings.
- 5.9xCharlotte-area searches for "life coach" in January 2026 (1,900) against September 2026 (320)
- 25xjump in Charlotte searches for "online courses", from 260 in February 2026 to 6,600 in May
- $2.97low end of the estimated click cost for "career coach", against $7.88 for "online courses"
- 170Charlotte-area searches a month for "certified life coach", from people who want to become coaches
The short answer
What makes online course marketing work?
Online course marketing works when the offer matches what people already search for (a coach, a credential, a result) and when every channel is judged by paying clients and enrollments, not by opt-ins or webinar sign-ups.
In the coaching and course accounts we audit, the money usually leaks in the same places: broad "online courses" clicks from people looking for free or college classes, one evergreen budget even though coaching demand jumps in January, and launches judged by how many people registered rather than how many bought. We plan search ads by offer, sales pages, social video ads, webinars and email sequences as one path from first click to first session, and we read it as cost per discovery call and cost per paying client.
We also write every ad around what the program delivers. Income promises and improbable results fall under Google’s unreliable claims policy, and coaching accounts built on them lose ads and trust at the same time.
What coaches and course creators need their marketing to solve.
These are the pressures we see in coaching practices, certification programs and course businesses. They are why a coaching plan is built differently from a college or tutoring plan.
-
Searches for a coach, not a course
Buyers type "career coach" or "life coach", rarely the name of a program. The offer has to show up where those searches happen, with a clear first step.
-
Short decision seasons
Coaching demand jumps in January and business coaching in spring and fall. Launches and budgets that ignore those windows pay full price for the quiet months.
-
Trust before the first call
People hire a coach they feel they know. Video, real stories and a free session or workshop do more than a long sales page from a stranger.
-
Several offers, one audience
One-on-one coaching, a group program and a self-paced course each need their own page, price point and follow-up. Mixed together, the cheapest offer takes the budget.
-
Webinars that end in sales
Most registrants never attend and most attendees do not buy on the day. Reminders and replay email decide how many become clients.
-
Claims that pass ad review
Income promises and dramatic before and after claims get coaching ads rejected and erode trust. The ads that last are built on what the program actually delivers.
What future clients and students search, and when.
Charlotte-market monthly searches and estimated click costs for coaching, certification and online course searches, with the US view beside them. Yearly averages hide the seasons, so the notes below read the monthly curve.

- Coaching is a January decision
- "life coach" reached 1,900 Charlotte-area searches in January 2026, against 390 in November and December 2025 and 320 in September 2026. It settled between 480 and 880 from February to May. A coaching practice that spends evenly all year buys most of its clicks after the decision season has passed.
- Business coaching peaks in spring and fall
- "business coach" hit 170 Charlotte searches in October 2025 and April 2026, then fell to 40 in August 2026. "career coach" held between 210 and 390 every month. Owners look for help around planning seasons; people changing jobs look all year.
- Broad course searches are big, spiky and expensive
- "online courses" went from 260 Charlotte searches in November 2025 and February 2026 to 6,600 in May and again in September 2026, at $7.88 or more a click. Most of those searchers want free or college classes. Coaching searches start near $3, and job-driven training spikes on its own calendar: "osha 30 training online" reached 260 in June and August 2026, against 20 to 50 in most months.

Our approach: it depends, and the data decides.
A life coach filling a January cohort and a certification program selling a self-paced course nationwide need different plans. Four things decide where an online course or coaching plan starts.
- Your goals Book more discovery calls, fill a group program by a start date, sell a self-paced course or grow a certification. Each starts with a different offer and a different page.
- Your timeline Coaching search and a webinar series can book calls within weeks. Video libraries, email lists and SEO for coaches compound over several launches.
- Your offer economics What a client is worth over a program sets what a call can cost. A high-touch coaching package can carry more per click than a lower-priced course.
- Your competition Large course platforms and national programs dominate the broad searches. We find the outcome searches, the local searches and the audiences where a named coach wins instead.
Data sets the launch and budget calendar, ties every client and enrollment to the search, video or email that started it, and shows which offers bring buyers who finish and come back.
One-on-one coaching
Discovery calls that turn into clients
Career, life and leadership coaching search, a short video introduction, and a booking page with the coach’s own calendar.
Group programs and launches
A full cohort by the start date
Webinar or workshop sign-ups from social video, reminder and replay email, and a sales page with one deadline.
Self-paced courses and certifications
Enrollments every week
Certification and skill searches, retargeting of course page visitors, and email that moves a free lesson to a purchase.
If a coaching business came to us, here is how we would start.
This is the pitch we would give a real client, built for a fictional Charlotte coaching and course business with real search data. The business, its phone number and its website are invented. Sample data shows the kind of results a campaign like this tracks; it is not a client result and not a promise.

How our specialists segment search demand by buyer intent
We would split the account by offer, because each one has its own buyer, its own season and its own price per click. Each group gets its own budget, its own page and its own conversion value, so spend follows the calendar and the offers that sell.
Life coaching
The largest coaching search in Charlotte and the most seasonal. Budget rises from late December through January, when searches run several times higher than in the fall.
| Search | Charlotte area / mo | Est. click cost |
|---|---|---|
| life coach | 720 | $3.51 to $9.99 |
| life coach charlotte nc | 110 | $2.50 to $10.96 |
| life coach near me | 90 | $2.55 to $11.69 |
Career coaching
Steady every month and among the cheapest clicks in the plan, from people changing jobs or preparing for interviews. This group runs all year.
| Search | Charlotte area / mo | Est. click cost |
|---|---|---|
| career coach | 320 | $2.97 to $15.88 |
| career coach charlotte nc | 90 | $2.58 to $15.37 |
| interview coach | 20 | $3.22 to $12.31 |
Leadership and business coaching
Fewer searches at a higher price, from managers and owners worth more per engagement. Weighted to April and October, when these searches peak.
| Search | Charlotte area / mo | Est. click cost |
|---|---|---|
| business coach | 90 | $5.03 to $16.40 |
| executive coaching | 70 | $5.82 to $19.58 |
| leadership coaching | 70 | $3.65 to $8.51 |
Coach certification course
People who want to become coaches, a national audience for the online course. Run nationwide with its own budget cap and judged by enrollments, not sign-ups.
| Search | Charlotte area / mo | Est. click cost |
|---|---|---|
| certified life coach | 170 | $3.81 to $12.99 |
| certified health coach | 70 | $3.72 to $12.53 |
| becoming a life coach | 10 | $3.51 to $20.20 |
How our negative keyword governance protects the budget
- Free courses, free certificates and course platform brand names
- College degrees, online programs and university searches
- Coaching jobs, coach salaries and hiring searches
- Sports coaching, fitness coaching and bus or travel coaches
- Therapy, counseling and mental health crisis searches
- Unrelated licensing and compliance training
Broad coaching and course searches pull in people looking for free classes, college programs, sports coaches and jobs. Our specialists exclude those before launch, route therapy searches away from coaching ads, and review search terms every week so the budget reaches people ready to book a call.

Each intent group gets message-matched ad copy engineered by our specialists to qualify buyers before the click and lift expected click-through rate.

The coaching listing and the map
"Life coach charlotte nc" and "life coach near me" bring up a map before the ads, and people choose from listings the way they choose a coach: by photos, reviews and how easy it is to start. The listing would show the coaching offers, online and in-person availability, a real photo of the coach and a link straight to the booking page. Reviews from clients carry the most weight; we ask after a program ends, never in exchange for anything, and reply to every one.
The Instagram ad
Most people who will hire a coach are not searching yet. Short videos of the coach talking about real situations build familiarity, and the workshop turns that attention into a small first step the email sequence can build on.
The email
A registrant becomes a client when the next step is small and personal. Each email moves toward one action (watch the replay, book a call, enroll), stops once the person takes it, and sends engaged readers to a call rather than another pitch.
What would a good next year look like?
Thanks for joining the workshop. The replay is below, and the part on changing fields starts about twenty minutes in. If you want help applying it to your own situation, book a free intro call: we will look at where you are and whether coaching is the right fit.
Book my intro callThe landing page the ads send people to
Each offer has its own page: career coaching searches see this page, certification searches see the course page with a free first lesson, leadership searches see a page for managers. Each asks for one thing and answers the questions that buyer brings.

What has worked for coaches and online programs.
Results the ad and email platforms published for coaching businesses and online programs. They are those businesses’ published results, not ours; each story shows what we would take from it.
Online course marketing from Charlotte, for coaches in every market.
We are based in Charlotte, where thousands of professionals change roles, step into management or start businesses every year, and where local coaching searches cost less than half of broad course searches. For in-person and hybrid coaching we plan around the towns a practice serves, from Charlotte to Huntersville, Matthews and Fort Mill. Online courses and certifications sell nationwide, so we also work with coaches and course creators across the US, with each campaign built on its own market’s data.
Six leaks we fix in coaching and course ad accounts.
When we take over coaching and online course accounts, these are the places we most often find clients and enrollments leaking, and what we change first.
Counting opt-ins as the result
When every free download counts the same, bidding finds people who collect freebies and never buy. We send booked calls, clients and purchases back to the ad platforms, so bidding works for buyers.
Bidding on "online courses"
The broadest course search is also one of the priciest and is full of people looking for free or college classes. We start with coaching, certification and outcome searches, and test broad terms only with a capped budget.
One flat budget all year
Life coaching searches jump in January and business coaching in spring and fall. We set a budget calendar from the search data and line launches up with those windows.
Judging a webinar by registrations
Most registrants never attend. We measure attendance, replay views, calls booked and sales by source, and fix the reminder and replay emails before buying more sign-ups.
One page for every offer
A manager looking for leadership coaching and a nurse who wants to become a coach need different pages. We build a page for each offer with one clear next step.
Income and outcome promises
Ads that promise income or dramatic results get disapproved and invite complaints. We write ads around what the program delivers: the format, the coach, the practice hours and real client stories.
Questions coaches and course creators ask us.
What should a coaching business spend on ads?
It depends on what a client is worth over a program, how many clients the practice can take, the season and how crowded the searches are. We start from the searches and click costs for each offer, set a budget calendar around the busy months, and adjust it as call and sales data show what each channel returns.
Should we run ads to a webinar or to a sales page?
It depends on the price and how well people know the coach. Higher-priced coaching usually sells better after a workshop, webinar or intro call; a lower-priced course can sell from a page with a free first lesson. We test both and judge them by sales, not sign-ups.
Can you work with our course platform and booking tool?
Yes. We connect the ad platforms and email to the course, booking and payment tools the business already uses, so calls, clients and purchases flow back as conversions, and we report by offer from the same data.
When should a coach start marketing for the new year?
Before most coaches do. Charlotte searches for "life coach" peaked in January 2026, so video, workshops and email lists are built in November and December, and search budgets rise from late December.
Do you work with coaches and course creators outside Charlotte?
Yes. As an online course marketing agency based in Charlotte, we work with coaches, certification programs and course businesses across the US. The method is the same everywhere; the offers, the competitors and the search calendar change.
Why do our coaching ads get disapproved?
Usually because of income claims or promised results. Google’s unreliable claims policy covers get rich quick offers and improbable results. We write ads around what the program delivers and keep claims to what the business can show.
