Klaviyo success story · Family-owned boat parts and accessories maker

How Boat Outfitters grew email and text revenue 71% by running both channels from one platform.

The Florida boat parts maker ran email and text messages on two separate tools that both claimed the same sales, while its automated emails were quietly landing in spam. Moving both channels into Klaviyo fixed the delivery, cleaned up the numbers and grew the revenue.

The challenge.

Boat Outfitters is a family-owned Florida business that has served boaters for more than 40 years. It has built more than 100,000 custom boat parts for more than 3,500 boat models and stocks thousands of replacement parts and accessories, from anchors to tackle boxes.

Email and text messages ran on two separate platforms. Each one took credit for the same sales, so revenue was counted twice and nobody could say which channel was working. Engagement and deliverability numbers were hard to find, and the team eventually learned that its automated emails had been going to spam for a long time, leaving a large share of repeat revenue on the table.

What they did.

Email and SMS on one platform · A/B testing · Dynamic product recommendations

Two channels, one platform
Email moved to Klaviyo email first, connected to the company’s Adobe Commerce store, and texting followed. The email switch took about a week and was finished before the old contract renewed.
Fixed the delivery
With clear deliverability reporting, the automated emails started reaching inboxes again, and flows became the largest source of Klaviyo revenue.
Texts tested, not blasted
The audience skews older, so text messages expanded slowly beyond order updates, with A/B tests deciding each new step.
One welcome, not two
Automations were coordinated so a customer who subscribed by email and text did not get the same welcome message twice.
The right part for the right boat
With thousands of products, dynamic product recommendations showed each shopper the item left in their cart or the category they kept browsing.

Why it worked.

Our read on the decisions behind the numbers, and what any business can take from them.

Emails that reach the inbox
The best flow in the world earns nothing in a spam folder. Fixing delivery alone unlocked revenue the business had been missing.
One source of truth
With both channels in one place, every sale was counted once, so the team could see what worked and put more behind it.
Respect for the audience
Testing each new text against a control kept an older customer base from feeling spammed, and grew texting only where it paid.
Relevance at catalog scale
Automated recommendations did what no team could do by hand: match thousands of parts to the shopper most likely to need each one.

How we would run this play for your business.

You do not need a national budget to use the same ideas. This is how Overtop Media Digital Marketing puts them to work in our Klaviyo email and SMS management.

Audit before you build
We start with deliverability, list health and attribution, because the cheapest revenue is often the email already being sent to spam.
Consolidate email and text
Email and SMS run from one platform with one set of numbers, set up and managed through our Klaviyo email and SMS management.
Test every new message
New texts and flows go out as A/B tests first, so you only scale what your customers respond to.
Bring in new boaters
Shoppers search by boat model and part name. Our Google Ads management catches those searches and sends new buyers into your flows.

Who this play fits.

You do not have to be a family-owned boat parts and accessories maker to use the same approach. It is a strong fit for:

  • Marine, RV and powersports parts
  • Outdoor and sporting goods stores
  • Online stores with large catalogs
  • Family-owned manufacturers selling direct
  • Brands with an older, loyal customer base
  • Any business running email and text on separate tools
