Catering marketing that fills the order book, not just the inbox

A caterer lives on quotes: the office manager who orders lunch every Thursday, the couple booking a reception a year out, the family that wants Thanksgiving handled. We plan your search ads, Google listing, website, social ads and email around those buyers, and we judge the work by quotes sent, events booked and accounts that reorder.

  • 1,300searches a month for "catering near me" in the Charlotte area
  • $3.20 to $21.07estimated cost of one click on "corporate catering" in the Charlotte area
  • 880searches for "thanksgiving catering near me" in November 2025, against 10 in most months
  • 1,300+monthly Charlotte-area searches for catering from chains by name

The short answer

What should catering marketing pay for first?

Catering marketing should pay first for the buyers who order again: office accounts and repeat hosts, then weddings and the holiday weeks, because one quote can be worth a month of walk-in sales.

The search data shows three different buyers. Office and corporate orders are the most expensive clicks in the trade ("corporate catering" runs $3.20 to $21.07 a click here) and the fewest searches, so most of those accounts are won by staying in front of office managers after the first order. Weddings and parties are cheaper per click and searched most in March and April. Holiday meals arrive all at once: "thanksgiving catering near me" went from 10 searches to 880 in one November. In the accounts we review, quote requests sit in an email inbox with no record of which channel sent them or which ones booked. We plan search ads by buyer, a website that captures date and headcount, and email that brings accounts back.

What caterers need their marketing to solve.

These are the pressures we see in catering accounts and quote inboxes. They are why a catering plan looks different from a restaurant’s, a food truck’s or an event planner’s.

  • Office buyers who reorder

An office manager who likes the first lunch orders again next month, and the month after. The value of a corporate account is in the reorders, which most caterers never ask for.

  • The priciest clicks in food

Corporate and office lunch searches cost several times a dining search in the Charlotte area. Every one of those clicks has to land on a page that asks for a headcount and a date.

  • Chains own the obvious search

People type the chain’s name plus "catering" more often than they type "catering near me". An independent caterer wins on the event, the menu and the service, not on the chain’s name.

  • Holidays come all at once

Thanksgiving and Christmas meal searches go from almost nothing to hundreds in two or three weeks. The menu, the order page and the cutoff date have to be live before that window opens.

  • Quotes go cold fast

A host asks three caterers for a quote on the same day. The first useful reply with a menu and a number usually wins the event.

  • Weddings book a year ahead

Wedding catering searches peak in March and April for dates months away. The calendar for next fall is filled by what runs this spring.

Our approach: it depends, and the data decides.

A restaurant with a catering menu, a full-service event caterer and a drop-off office lunch kitchen need different plans. Four things decide where a catering plan starts.

  • Your goals More office accounts, more weddings, a bigger holiday week, or a catering side that outgrows the dining room. Each one starts in a different channel.
  • Your timeline Search ads and a quote page bring inquiries within weeks. A base of office accounts that reorder, and a wedding calendar a year out, take seasons.
  • Your budget Corporate clicks cost the most in the trade. Budget goes to the buyers worth the most over a year, measured by booked revenue, not by clicks or form fills.
  • Your competition For office lunches you are up against chains with national catering programs; for weddings, against other full-service caterers and venues with in-house kitchens.

Data shows which buyers reorder and which only ever ask for a quote, moves budget to the searches and seasons that book, and ties each inquiry to the channel that sent it, so the order book fills from the sources that pay.

  • Restaurant that also caters

Grow catering beside the dining room

A catering page with menus by headcount, search ads for office and party orders near the restaurant, and email to diners who have ordered for a group before.

  • Full-service event caterer

Fill the wedding and event calendar

Wedding and event search ads in spring, a portfolio page that asks for the date and guest count, fast quote follow-up and outreach to venues.

  • Office lunch and drop-off kitchen

    Win accounts that reorder

Corporate search ads during business hours, a simple order page, reorder reminders to office managers and reporting by account.

If a Charlotte caterer came to us, here is how we would start.

This is the pitch we would give a real client, built for a fictional Charlotte caterer with real search data. The caterer, its phone number and its website are invented. Sample data shows the kind of results a campaign like this tracks; it is not a client result and not a promise.

How our specialists segment search demand by buyer intent

We would split the account by buyer: someone who needs a caterer nearby, an office ordering for a team, a couple or host planning an event, and families ordering a holiday meal. Office groups run on weekdays during business hours; the holiday group switches on in October and off when the order cutoff passes.

How our negative keyword governance protects the budget

  • Chain restaurant catering by name
  • Grocery store party trays
  • Catering jobs and hiring
  • Starting a catering business
  • Recipes and cooking for a crowd
  • Catering equipment and supplies

Catering searches pull in people looking for a chain’s catering menu (Moe’s, Subway, CAVA, Food Lion, Qdoba, Cracker Barrel and Panera catering searches add up to about 1,340 a month here), grocery trays, job seekers and home cooks. Our specialists load these exclusions before launch and read the search terms every week, so the budget reaches people ready to ask for a quote.

How we write and test the Google search ads

Each intent group gets message-matched ad copy engineered by our specialists to qualify buyers before the click and lift expected click-through rate.

The Google listing and the map

Hosts often check the map and the reviews before they ask for a quote, so the plan includes the Google Business Profile, set up the way Google’s guidelines allow for the business: a kitchen or restaurant guests can visit, or a service area for a caterer that only delivers. The listing carries the catering menu, event photos, the holiday order dates as posts and replies to every review. Catering is not a Local Services Ads category, so reviews that mention the event and the office carry the trust a verified badge carries for a home service business.

Catering marketing in Charlotte, from Uptown offices to wedding Saturdays.

We are based in Charlotte, where catering runs on Uptown and Ballantyne offices, hospital and campus meetings, and a wedding season spread across venues from Lake Norman to the South Carolina line. A caterer sells to two markets: the offices within a delivery radius, and hosts across the whole region. We plan office campaigns around the business districts and event campaigns across the area, from Matthews and Mooresville to Concord and Fort Mill. We also work with caterers and catering brands nationwide; the holiday weeks are the same everywhere, while the wedding season and the office calendar shift with the market.

Six growth leaks we fix in catering marketing.

When we take over catering accounts, these are the places we most often find revenue leaking, and what we change first.

  1. One ad for every buyer

A single catering campaign mixes office lunches, weddings and holiday meals, so nobody can tell which one pays. We split them by buyer and judge each by booked revenue.

  2. Paying for chain names

Searches for a chain’s catering menu look like customers and cost money. We exclude chain names before launch and read the search terms every week.

  3. Office orders that never repeat

The first lunch goes well and nobody asks for the second. We send reorder reminders to every office account and track which ones come back.

  4. Quotes answered tomorrow

Hosts ask several caterers at once. We route every request to one place with the date and headcount, and measure the time to a first reply.

  5. The holiday menu goes live in November

Thanksgiving searches jump in early November and are gone by December. We launch the holiday page, ads and emails in October, with a clear order cutoff.

  6. A homepage as the landing page

An office manager and a bride land on the same page and both leave. We send each group to its own page with its own menu and form.

Questions caterers ask us.

Are catering ads on Google worth it?

For most caterers, yes, when the ads are split by buyer. Office and corporate clicks are expensive in the Charlotte area ($3.20 to $21.07 for "corporate catering"), but one account can reorder for years; wedding and party clicks mostly start under $1.50. We judge every group by booked revenue, not clicks.

What does SEO for catering companies focus on?

Pages buyers actually compare: office catering, weddings, cuisines such as barbecue, and the areas you deliver to, plus a Google listing with the catering menu and recent event reviews. "Catering charlotte nc" alone draws about 880 searches a month here.

When should holiday catering marketing start?

In October. Charlotte-area Thanksgiving catering searches went from 260 in October 2025 to 880 in November and almost nothing in December, and Christmas dinner catering searches peak in December. The menu, order cutoff and ads need to be live before the spike.

How do you compete with chains that cater?

Not on their names. Chains get over a thousand catering searches a month by name in the Charlotte area. An independent caterer wins on events, menus built for the occasion, service on the day and fast quotes, so that is where we put the ads, the photos and the follow-up.

Do you work with caterers outside Charlotte?

Yes. We are based in Charlotte and work with caterers, restaurants with catering programs and catering brands across the US. The method is the same; the wedding season and the office calendar change with the market.

Is this the same as event planner marketing?

No. An event planner sells the whole event; a caterer sells the food and the service, often to the same office or couple again and again. We plan catering around quotes, bookings and reorders, and we are a full-service agency, so search, social, email and the website work together on that.
