Veterinary clinics

Veterinary marketing that fills exam rooms and brings pets back

A new puppy owner, a worried owner at 9 pm and a long-time client who is overdue for vaccines all search differently. We plan search ads, Local Services Ads, your Google profile, social ads and reminders around the appointments your doctors can see, for Charlotte-area clinics and veterinary practices nationwide.

  • 12,100"vet near me" searches a month in the Charlotte area, rising to 14,800 in June and July 2026
  • 11,000"emergency vet near me" and "urgent vet" searches a month in the Charlotte area, combined
  • $7.08 to $33.08estimated cost of one click on "veterinarian charlotte nc"
  • 1,900"emergency vet charlotte" searches in February 2026, against 720 in January

The short answer

What does veterinary marketing need to do that other local marketing does not?

Veterinary marketing has to win two very different moments: the calm choice of a regular vet, which lasts for years, and the urgent search when a pet is sick tonight. Both run through the map, the phone and the reviews.

In the Charlotte data, searches for urgent and emergency care add up to almost as many as searches for a regular vet, and they cost less to start. A clinic that only advertises wellness misses half the demand; one that runs urgent ads without the hours or staff to answer wastes it. Veterinarians are a Local Services Ads category, so a verified clinic can pay per lead above the search ads, and review requests must follow Google’s rules: no discounts for reviews, no asking only happy clients. We plan veterinary advertising, the Google Business Profile, social ads, veterinary SEO and reminder email as one system, and judge each by booked visits and returning patients.

What veterinary clinics need their marketing to solve.

These are the pressures we see in single-doctor practices, multi-doctor hospitals and clinics that take urgent cases. They are why a vet plan is built differently from a grooming or boarding plan.

  • New clients for life

A family that picks your clinic for a new puppy may stay fifteen years. The first visit is worth far more than its invoice, so the cost of winning it should be judged that way.

  • Urgent calls that get answered

Sick-pet searches end in a phone call within minutes. If nobody picks up, or the ad runs after the last doctor leaves, the owner calls the next clinic on the map.

  • Doctor hours, not ad hours

Advertising should follow open appointment slots. A full Tuesday needs no ads; an empty Saturday morning does.

  • Pets back on schedule

Vaccines, dental cleanings and senior checkups keep a clinic healthy. Reminders that land at the right moment cost far less than finding a new client.

  • Corporate groups on the same map

National hospital chains and private-equity groups bid on the same searches with bigger budgets. An independent clinic wins on its doctors, its reviews and how fast it answers.

  • Price shoppers kept apart

Hundreds of Charlotte searches a month ask for a cheap or low-cost vet. Some fit a clinic with wellness plans; many are looking for a shelter clinic and will never book.

Urgent care is half the market
"Emergency vet near me" reached 8,100 Charlotte-area searches in December 2025 and in May, July, August and September 2026. "Urgent vet" climbed from 3,600 a month through January 2026 to 4,400 every month from March. Together they nearly match "vet near me", and their clicks start lower.
Summer is the busy season, February the quiet one
"Vet near me" held at 12,100 most months, rose to 14,800 in June and July 2026 and fell to 9,900 in February. Yet "emergency vet charlotte" jumped to 1,900 that same February and 1,300 in March, so the quiet month for routine care was the loudest for emergencies.
Dental interest peaks in winter
"Dog dental care" ran at 880 searches a month from December 2025 to February 2026, then slid to 210 by September 2026. Clinics that push dental cleanings in the fall are a season late; the owners are looking in the winter months.

Our approach: it depends, and the data decides.

A one-doctor clinic in a growing suburb, a hospital with late hours and a group with five locations need different plans. Four things decide where a veterinary plan starts.

  • Your goals More new clients, more urgent cases on open evenings, a new doctor’s schedule filled or more dental and surgery work. Each starts with a different keyword group and message.
  • Your timeline Search ads, Local Services Ads and the map book visits within weeks. Veterinary SEO, service pages and review volume build over a year or more.
  • Your budget Clinic searches start near $4 a click in Charlotte, more for city-named searches. A smaller budget goes to the miles owners will drive and the hours someone answers the phone.
  • Your competition Hospital chains, emergency centers and mobile vets share the results. The plan depends on who bids around your clinic and which hours they leave open.

Data sets the budget by open appointment slots, ties each call and booking to the search, listing or email that began it, and shows when to move money between new clients, urgent cases and returning patients.

  • Single-doctor clinic

Be the vet nearby families choose

The Google profile, Local Services Ads, a tight search campaign around the clinic and reminders that keep every patient on schedule.

  • Clinic with late or urgent hours

    Win the sick-pet searches

A separate urgent campaign that runs only while doctors are in, call tracking on every ad and a listing that shows the hours plainly.

  • Multi-location group

    Fill each hospital’s schedule

Location-level campaigns and listings, reporting by hospital and doctor, and budgets that move to whichever location has open slots.

If a veterinary clinic came to us, here is how we would start.

This is the pitch we would give a real client, built for a fictional Charlotte animal hospital with real search data. The business, its phone number and its website are invented. Sample data shows the kind of results a campaign like this tracks; it is not a client result and not a promise.

How our specialists segment search demand by buyer intent

We would split the account by what the owner needs today, because a new client, a sick pet and a due vaccine each have their own click cost, curve and landing page. Budget then follows open appointments instead of sitting in one pot.

Vet near me

Owners choosing a regular clinic. The core of the account, funded hardest in June and July, with bids tied to open new-client slots.

How our negative keyword governance protects the budget

  • Veterinary jobs, tech programs and school
  • Shelter and free clinic searches
  • Pet medication and supply orders
  • Chain hospital brand names
  • Home remedies and symptom lookups
  • Livestock and large animal care

Vet searches pull in job seekers, students, owners looking for a free shelter clinic and people ordering pet meds online. Our specialists load these exclusions before launch and review the search terms every week, so the budget reaches owners ready to book a visit.

How we write and test the Google search ads

Each intent group gets message-matched ad copy engineered by our specialists to qualify buyers before the click and lift expected click-through rate.

Local Services Ads and the map

Veterinarians are a Local Services Ads category, so the hospital would pass Google’s business and license checks, show the Google Verified badge and pay per lead, not per click. We would switch on the services it wants more of, set the hours someone answers the phone so leads never arrive to an empty front desk, and dispute calls that were not pet owners. Reviews feed the same listing; we ask every client after a visit, never in exchange for anything, and reply without sharing any detail of a pet’s care.

The Facebook ad

Social ads reach new movers and new pet owners within a short drive of the clinic before they ever need a vet in a hurry. Real photos of the doctors and the exam rooms do the work that a stock puppy cannot.

What each piece turns into, and how they hand off

  2. The call is answered Ads run only while someone can pick up.
  3. The visit is booked Online or by phone, the same day if needed.
  4. Reminders bring the pet back Vaccines, dental and senior checkups on time.

How our team tracks calls, bookings and revenue

  • Calls by source and hourEvery call from an ad, the listing or the site counted by channel and time of day, so urgent ads are judged by the calls they bring.
  • Online bookingsAppointments booked online counted as one event, with no detail of the pet’s condition attached.
  • New clients versus returningVisits matched to the practice software, so new clients are counted apart from patients coming back.
  • A monthly report by locationSpend, calls, bookings, new clients and cost per new client for each hospital and each campaign group.

Veterinary marketing in Charlotte, clinic by clinic.

We are based in Charlotte, where new neighborhoods fill with young families and their first pets, and where owners will drive only so far with a sick dog in the back seat. We plan each clinic its own radius, budget and listing, tighter for urgent care than for a first wellness visit, and we time spend to the summer rise and the winter emergency spikes in the local data. We also work with veterinary practices nationwide; the searches, the hospital chains and the season change by market, and the plan changes with them.

Six growth leaks we fix in veterinary ad accounts.

When we take over veterinary accounts, these are the places we most often find new clients and visits leaking, and what we change first.

  1. Urgent ads running after hours

Sick-pet ads that run when no doctor is in send owners to a voicemail and then to a competitor. We schedule urgent campaigns to the hours a doctor can see the case, and point after-hours searches to the clinic’s own guidance.

  2. One campaign for every need

A new client, a sick pet and a dental cleaning search different words at different costs. We split them so each gets its own ads, page and budget, and money moves to whichever has open slots.

  3. Paying for free clinic searches

Low-cost spay, neuter and shot searches often come from owners looking for a shelter or a mobile event. We exclude them, or give them their own small campaign if the clinic offers wellness plans.

  4. Calls nobody counts

Most vet visits start with a phone call, yet many accounts count only form fills. We track every call by source and hour, so bidding learns which searches book visits.

  5. Dental pushed in the wrong season

Owners search for dog dental care most in the winter months. We move dental budgets and reminders into December through February instead of the fall.

  6. Reviews asked for the wrong way

Discounts for reviews and asking only happy clients break Google’s rules and can cost the listing its reviews. We set up a plain request after every visit and reply to each review.

Questions veterinary clinic owners ask us.

How much should a veterinary clinic spend on advertising?

It depends on how many open appointments you have, whether you take urgent cases and who bids around you. Clinic searches in Charlotte start near $4 a click, so we set the budget from your doctors’ schedules and adjust it as booking data shows what each channel returns.

Should we advertise for emergency and urgent searches?

Only during the hours a doctor can see the case. In the Charlotte data these searches nearly match routine vet searches, so they are worth having, but an ad that leads to a closed clinic costs money and goodwill.

Can a vet clinic run Local Services Ads?

Yes. Veterinarians are a Local Services Ads category. After Google’s business and license checks, the listing shows the Google Verified badge, sits above the regular ads and charges per lead. We run it alongside search ads and the map.

How do we compete with the big hospital chains?

On what they cannot copy: your doctors, your reviews, your hours and how quickly you answer the phone. We focus spend on the few miles around your clinic and the hours the chains leave open.

Do you work with veterinary clinics outside Charlotte?

Yes. We are based in Charlotte and work with veterinary practices across the US. The method is the same; the click costs, the season and the competition change by market.

What do you measure besides leads?

Calls by source and hour, online bookings, booked visits, new clients and cost per new client, by location. A lead count alone cannot tell a job seeker from a new client.
