Outdoor lighting

Outdoor lighting marketing that sells the view after dark

In the Charlotte area, landscape lighting searches peak twice, in October and again in March and April, while holiday lighting searches jump from almost nothing to 1,600 in November. We plan search ads, your Google listing, Instagram and Facebook ads and email around both seasons, and judge them by evening demos booked and systems installed.

  • 720searches for "landscape lighting" in October 2025, against 320 in January and February 2026
  • 10 to 1,600monthly searches for "permanent christmas lights", from April 2026 back to November 2025
  • $9.62 to $80.52estimated cost of one click on "landscape lighting near me" in Charlotte
  • 390average monthly searches for "outdoor string lights", most of them shoppers buying a product

The short answer

What does outdoor lighting marketing need to get right?

Outdoor lighting marketing has to find the homeowner who wants a designed, installed system among a much larger crowd shopping for solar stakes and string lights, then show them their own house lit at night before they decide.

Most outdoor lighting accounts we audit bid on broad lighting terms and pay for retail shoppers. In the Charlotte data, "solar lights for yard" and "outdoor string lights" draw hundreds of searches a month at clicks under $1.50, and almost none of those people want a designer. The buyers are in fewer, pricier searches: "landscape lighting charlotte" is estimated at $15.25 to $45 a click. The sale itself happens after sunset, at a demo on the client’s lawn. As an outdoor lighting marketing agency, we plan landscape lighting advertising, the Google listing, SEO, social ads and email as one system, and read the results as night demos booked, systems sold and holiday clients who come back each fall.

What outdoor lighting companies need their marketing to solve.

These pressures show up in almost every lighting account and sales call we see. They are why an outdoor lighting plan differs from a landscape design or pool plan, even when the clients live on the same street.

  • A product nobody sees by day

A lighting system looks like a few black fixtures in the mulch at noon. The ad, the gallery and the sales visit all have to show the yard after dark, or the value never lands.

  • Two seasons with different buyers

Landscape lighting sells in fall and spring. Holiday and permanent roofline lighting sells in a few weeks before Thanksgiving. Each needs its own budget, message and crew plan.

  • Retail shoppers mixed into every search

Solar lights, string lights, motion sensors and smart bulbs share the same words as a designed system. Without tight exclusions, most clicks go to people buying a box at a store.

  • Demos that only work after sunset

The best close is a temporary setup on the client’s own lawn at dusk. Sales slots depend on sunset times, so the calendar shrinks in summer and opens up in fall and winter.

  • Service plans and holiday repeats

Bulbs, timers and fixtures need yearly checks, and holiday clients rebook every fall. Repeat revenue is often worth more than the first install, if the client list is used.

  • Trust with wiring around the home

Owners want to know who runs low voltage cable through their beds and who climbs the roofline. Licensing where required, insurance, warranties and night photos of finished jobs close the sale.

What people search when they want their yard lit.

Monthly searches and estimated click costs for the searches an outdoor lighting company competes for. Landscape lighting, holiday lighting and retail product searches each follow their own curve, so the notes read the months, not the yearly average.

Landscape lighting peaks twice
In the Charlotte area, "landscape lighting" reached 720 searches in October 2025 and 590 in November, fell to 320 in January and February 2026, then climbed back to 590 in March and April. Fall, when evenings get dark early, and spring, when yards get redone, are the two selling windows.
Holiday lighting is a six-week market
"Permanent christmas lights" went from 320 searches in October 2025 to 1,600 in November, then to 10 in April 2026. "Christmas light installation" hit 1,600 in November and 10 in May. Holiday clients are won from September to mid-November, or not at all.
Local intent costs ten times more
"Landscape lighting" starts at $0.89 a click, but "landscape lighting near me" starts at $9.62 and "landscape lighting charlotte" at $15.25, and the Charlotte term jumped to 390 searches in September 2026. The buyer who names a place is the one worth paying for.

Our approach: it depends, and the data decides.

A landscape lighting design firm, a permanent roofline lighting dealer and a landscaper adding lighting to installs need different plans. Four things decide where an outdoor lighting plan starts.

  • Your goals More full landscape systems, more permanent roofline installs, more holiday contracts or more commercial properties. Each one starts in a different month and channel.
  • Your demo and crew capacity Night demos cap how many systems a designer can sell in a week, and holiday crews cap how many roofs go up before Thanksgiving. The plan fills those slots, not an inbox.
  • Your project value The average system, the share of clients who add a service plan or holiday lighting, and the close rate after a demo decide what a lead is worth and what a click can cost.
  • Your competition National franchises, permanent lighting dealers, electricians and landscapers all bid on lighting terms. Lake homes and estate lots compete differently from newer subdivisions.

Data splits the budget between landscape and holiday lighting by month, keeps retail shoppers out, checks every channel against demos booked and systems installed, and shows when to shift money from fall holiday lighting to spring landscape work.

  • Landscape lighting systems

Fill the fall and spring demo calendar

Local searches funded from September to November and March to May, night galleries by home style on every landing page, and demo booking with sunset times instead of a generic form.

  • Permanent and holiday lighting

Win the six weeks before Thanksgiving

Holiday and roofline campaigns that launch in September, past clients emailed first, and social ads showing lit rooflines on nearby streets.

  • Service plans and add-ons

    Grow revenue from installed clients

Yearly checkups, fixture upgrades and holiday add-ons sold to the client list by email and text, with a small search budget for repair and upgrade searches.

If an outdoor lighting company came to us, here is how we would start.

This is the pitch we would give a real client, built for a fictional Charlotte outdoor lighting company with real search data. The company, its phone number and its website are invented. Sample data shows the kind of results a campaign like this tracks; it is not a client result and not a promise.

How our specialists segment search demand by buyer intent

We would split the account by what the buyer wants installed, because designed landscape systems, low voltage upgrades, holiday lighting and commercial properties each have their own months, click costs and job values. Budget then follows the two seasons instead of a flat monthly line.

Landscape lighting design

The core of the business. Local and installation searches cost the most, so this group gets the strongest bids in fall and spring and tight limits in midsummer.

SearchCharlotte area / moEst. click cost
landscape lighting480$0.89 to $15.17
landscape lighting charlotte110$15.25 to $45.00
landscape lighting near me70$9.62 to $80.52
landscape lighting installation40$3.66 to $73.38
outdoor lighting companies near me30$9.61 to $40.26

Low voltage and LED systems

Owners who know what they want and compare installers. A landing page explains fixtures, transformers and warranties in plain words, with night photos of finished homes.

SearchCharlotte area / moEst. click cost

low voltage outdoor lighting90$0.45 to $3.23
outdoor landscape lighting50$1.42 to $11.74
led landscape lighting30$0.79 to $4.34

Permanent and holiday lighting

A short, intense season. This group runs from September to early December, with the budget front-loaded in October and November, and pauses in spring.

SearchCharlotte area / moEst. click cost
permanent christmas lights260$3.94 to $19.69

permanent outdoor lighting110$3.40 to $17.55
holiday lighting installation70$6.11 to $18.98

Commercial properties

Restaurants, offices and HOA entrances buy larger systems and holiday displays. Low volume, so a small group with its own landing page and bid limits.

How our negative keyword governance protects the budget

  • Solar and battery lights
  • String and fairy lights
  • Motion sensor and security lamps
  • Retail and smart bulb brands
  • Fixtures and parts for sale
  • Lighting jobs and hiring

Lighting terms pull in shoppers buying a product, not a system. "Solar lights for yard" drew 260 Charlotte-area searches a month at a top estimate of $1.18 a click, and "outdoor string lights" 390. Store and smart bulb brand searches peak in November alongside holiday lighting. Our specialists load these exclusions before launch and review search terms every week.

How we write and test the Google search ads

Each intent group gets message-matched ad copy engineered by our specialists to qualify buyers before the click and lift expected click-through rate.

The Google listing and the map

Searches with "near me" or "charlotte" end on the map, and the listing is often seen at night on a phone. We would set the categories and services by job type (landscape lighting, holiday lighting, permanent lighting), post night photos of finished homes by neighborhood, keep holiday hours and booking dates current, and reply to every review, all within Google’s guidelines for representing a business. A listing full of daytime fixture photos loses the click to one that shows the yard lit.

Outdoor lighting marketing in Charlotte, from lake homes to historic streets.

We are based in Charlotte, where owners around Lake Norman light docks and shorelines, Myers Park and Dilworth homes light old oaks and brick facades, and newer neighborhoods in Fort Mill and Matthews add rooflines and paths. We plan lighting marketing around the towns you serve and the systems each one buys, and around the holiday weeks when every roofline company competes. We also work with outdoor lighting companies nationwide; where winters are mild or summers run long, the selling seasons shift, so the plan changes with the market.

Six growth leaks we fix in outdoor lighting ad accounts.

When we take over outdoor lighting accounts, these are the places we most often find jobs leaking, and what we change first.

  1. Paying for product shoppers

Broad lighting terms bring people buying solar stakes and string lights. We exclude products, retail brands and parts before launch and check search terms every week.

  2. One budget for the whole year

Landscape lighting peaks in fall and spring, holiday lighting in November. We set budgets by season so money is there when each buyer searches.

  3. Starting holiday ads too late

Holiday searches spike in November, when crews are already booked. We start in September and email past clients first, so the calendar fills before the rush.

  4. Daytime photos in ads and listings

Fixtures in the mulch at noon sell nothing. We use night photos and before and after pairs in ads, galleries and the Google listing.

  5. Judging ads by form fills

A lead asking about a solar lamp counts the same as a full system. We track demos and send installed job value back to Google Ads so bidding favors real projects.

  6. Forgetting installed clients

Each system needs yearly care and each home is a holiday prospect. We set up service and holiday reminders so past clients keep buying.

Questions outdoor lighting companies ask us.

How much should an outdoor lighting company spend on advertising?

It depends on your demo capacity, your average system value and how many clients add holiday lighting or a service plan. We start from the searches in your area and their click costs by job type, split the budget between landscape and holiday seasons, and adjust it as installed job data comes in.

When should outdoor lighting companies advertise?

In two windows. In the Charlotte area, "landscape lighting" peaked at 720 searches in October 2025 and 590 in March and April 2026, and holiday lighting searches jumped to 1,600 in November. Landscape campaigns run all year with more weight in fall and spring; holiday campaigns start in September.

Is holiday lighting worth adding to a landscape lighting business?

Often, because it fills crew time in late fall and gives past clients a reason to call every year. The search window is short, so it works best when it is planned with the landscape lighting budget and sold to existing clients first.

Do Facebook and Instagram ads work for landscape lighting advertising?

They work well because lighting sells on the before and after. Night photos from nearby homes keep a company in front of owners while they plan, and retargeting brings back site visitors. We judge them on demos booked and systems sold, not likes.

How do you keep lighting ads away from people shopping for products?

With exclusions for solar, string, motion and smart bulb searches, retail brands and parts, set before launch and reviewed weekly. We also bid more on searches that name a place or an install, where the Charlotte data shows the real buyers.

Do you work with outdoor lighting companies outside Charlotte?

Yes. We are based in Charlotte and handle marketing for outdoor lighting companies across the US. The method is the same; the seasons, click costs and competitors change with each market.
