Periodontists

Periodontist marketing that turns gum searches into treatment

Periodontists grow from two directions: general dentists who refer gum disease and graft cases, and adults who search for bleeding or receding gums on their own. Our plan joins search ads, the Google listing, referral reports and maintenance recall to serve both, for Charlotte-area periodontal practices and groups nationwide.

  • 2,400"periodontist" searches in the Charlotte area in April 2026, against 880 in August
  • 2,900"gingivitis" searches a month in the Charlotte area, with clicks starting near $0.84
  • $3.04 to $23.73estimated cost of one click on "periodontist near me" in Charlotte
  • 390"gum graft surgery" searches in July 2026, against 90 in October and November 2025

The short answer

Why does periodontist marketing need its own plan?

Periodontist marketing has to reach adults who describe a symptom, not a specialty, and the general dentists who refer them, so it is judged by treatment started and patients kept on maintenance, not by clicks.

Few patients know the word periodontist. In Charlotte they search "gingivitis", "gum disease" and "receding gums" thousands of times a month, mostly for answers at home, while the searches that name the specialist are smaller and cost several times more per click. Deep cleaning, root planing and gum surgery searches sit between the two, with the highest click floors in the trade. Two platform rules shape every gum campaign: Google lists health among its restricted categories for personalized advertising, and Meta bars ad copy that asserts or implies personal health attributes. Our team runs periodontal advertising, the Google Business Profile, treatment SEO and referral reporting as one system.

What periodontal practices need their marketing to solve.

These are the pressures we see in single-doctor periodontal offices, multi-office groups and practices adding a new doctor. They are why a periodontal plan looks nothing like a general dentistry plan.

  • Patients who search the symptom

In Charlotte, "gingivitis" draws 2,900 searches a month and "periodontist" 1,300. Most people with gum trouble never type the specialty, so the practice has to answer the symptom first.

  • Referring offices that drift

Many gum disease and graft cases still start with a hygienist at a general practice. Few periodontal offices can show which practices send patients and how many start treatment.

  • Maintenance that keeps patients

Gum care does not end with one procedure. Patients who slip off their maintenance schedule are lost revenue and a weaker case for the referring dentist.

  • Procedure clicks that cost the most

"Gingivectomy" clicks start near $6.61 in Charlotte and "root planing" near $4.48, against $0.78 for "gum disease treatment". Each procedure needs its own budget line.

  • Treatments with nothing in common

Deep cleaning, gum grafts and gum surgery reach different patients at different moments. One campaign and one page blur them together.

  • Health ad rules on every channel

Ad copy may not hint at a viewer’s gum condition, and people who read a treatment page are off limits for custom remarketing on Google. Both limits are built into the plan before launch.

What people search when they look for a periodontist, and when.

Monthly searches and estimated click costs for the searches a periodontal practice competes for. Yearly averages hide a spring peak and a summer graft spike, so the notes below read the curve month by month.

The specialist peaks in spring
"Periodontist" rose to 1,600 searches in January and March 2026 and 2,400 in April, then fell to 1,000 from May to July and 880 in August. "Gum disease" followed the same shape, peaking at 1,600 in April. New patient budgets belong in the first four months of the year.
Grafts spike in the summer
"Gum graft surgery" sat near 90 to 140 searches a month from October 2025 to June 2026, then jumped to 390 in July and 320 in August. Graft consults and the budget behind them need to be ready before July, not after.
Symptom searches are cheap for a reason
"Gingivitis" and "periodontal disease" draw 4,500 searches a month together in Charlotte with clicks starting near $0.84 and $0.11, a sign most searchers want a home answer. "Periodontist near me" starts near $3.04. The money goes to the specialist and treatment searches; the symptom searches are won with pages, not bids.

Our approach: it depends, and the data decides.

A periodontist who lives on referrals and a group building its own patient flow need different plans. Four things decide where a periodontal plan starts.

  • Your goals More gum disease patients, more graft cases, more referrals from general dentists or more patients kept on maintenance. Each starts with a different channel.
  • Your timeline Search ads can catch the spring and summer peaks within weeks; symptom pages, hygienist relationships and reviews take the better part of a year to pay off.
  • Your budget Near-me specialist clicks start above $3 in Charlotte. A smaller budget goes to the specialist searches in spring and to grafts before July first.
  • Your competition General practices that keep gum cases in-house, rival periodontal groups and implant centers all show up for the same searches. Who bids near your office shapes the plan.

Data sets the spend from open consult capacity. Every started treatment is traced back to its first touch, whether a referring office, a search, the listing or an email, with no clinical detail stored, and the numbers show when grafts, deep cleaning or gum disease should get more of the budget.

  • Referral-led practice

Protect and grow the referral base

Referral tracking by office, an easy referral form for dentists and hygienists, and a quarterly update showing each office its patients in treatment, with search ads filling the gaps.

  • Practice going direct to patients

More self-referred gum disease and graft cases

Symptom and treatment pages written for adults, specialist and graft campaigns timed to spring and summer, and a Google profile built for patients who never had a referral.

  • Multi-office periodontal group

    Fill each doctor’s schedule

Office-level campaigns and listings, reporting by doctor and office, and maintenance recall tracked by location so no office loses its patients quietly.

If a periodontal practice came to us, here is how we would start.

This is the pitch we would give a real client, built for a fictional Charlotte periodontal practice with real search data. The business, its phone number and its website are invented. Sample data shows the kind of results a campaign like this tracks; it is not a client result and not a promise.

How our specialists segment search demand by buyer intent

We would split the account by what the patient already knows: some search for a periodontist, some for a treatment and some only for a symptom. Each has its own click cost, curve and landing page, so budget moves with the spring and summer peaks instead of sitting in one pot.

Periodontist near me

People who already know they need a specialist, often with a referral card. Funded hardest from January to April, with bids tied to open consult slots and the office, the doctor and directions up front.

Patients told they need a deep cleaning, often comparing price. Sent to a page that answers what the visit involves, insurance basics and why maintenance visits follow.

How our negative keyword governance protects the budget

  • Home remedies and natural cures
  • Mouthwash, toothpaste and product names
  • Canker sores and mouth ulcers
  • Free clinics and dental school care
  • Out-of-network insurance plans
  • Hygienist jobs and hygiene school

Gum searches pull in people looking for a rinse, a home cure, a canker sore answer or a hygiene job. These exclusion lists go in on day one, and our specialists read the real search terms weekly to add more, keeping spend on adults ready to see a periodontist.

How we write and test the Google search ads

Each intent group gets message-matched ad copy engineered by our specialists to qualify buyers before the click and lift expected click-through rate.

The Google listing and the map

A patient handed a referral card usually types the doctor’s name, or "periodontist near me", and picks an office from the map. Larkmont’s listing would name each gum treatment, introduce the periodontists, answer common insurance questions and carry genuine office photos, with booking one tap away. We request reviews once a maintenance visit is done, offer nothing for them, and answer each one warmly while never confirming that the reviewer is a patient or what was treated.

The Facebook ad

Periodontal Facebook ads target adults living around the office, by area and wide interest groups, from March into early summer. Copy stays on the doctors and the visit and never mentions the viewer’s gums or symptoms, in line with Meta’s rule on personal health attributes.

The email

This goes only to existing patients, from the practice’s own system, when a maintenance visit comes due. Patients kept on schedule are the steadiest revenue a periodontal office has, and every message names the visit, never a diagnosis.

Visitors are often unsure a specialist is needed and anxious about cost and discomfort. Those worries get answered first, the periodontists and office appear early, and booking asks for three things only: name, phone and what brings them in.

How our team tracks calls, bookings and revenue

  • Consult requests and callsCalls and form requests tallied per channel as a single event; symptoms, treatments and form answers never travel with them.
  • Referrals by officeReferrals logged against the general practice and hygienist who sent them, pulled from the practice software, so a cooling relationship shows up early.
  • Treatment started by sourceStarted treatment matched to the referral, search, listing or email that began it, returned to Google only as an anonymous conversion count, and only where the practice’s own privacy review signs off.
  • Maintenance keptMaintenance visits booked and kept each month by office, so the report shows patients retained, not only patients won.

Periodontal digital marketing services, and which come first.

Most periodontal plans rest on the four core services below. The rest are added when an office is ready for them, and an office living on referrals usually adds them in a different order than one courting patients directly.

What has worked for dental and orthodontic businesses.

Two published case studies from dental businesses: an orthodontic group on an email platform and a dental software company on a CRM. The numbers belong to those companies and their platforms, not to us; under each we note the lesson we would bring to a periodontal office.

Periodontist marketing in Charlotte and the region.

Charlotte is home, and here one periodontal office often fields referrals from a dozen or more general practices spread over several towns. Targeting follows the map of those referring offices and the patients they send, and spend rises into the spring specialist peak and the July graft jump that show up in the local numbers. We also work with periodontists nationwide, with the same method rebuilt around their own search volumes, referral networks and calendar.

Six growth leaks we fix in periodontist marketing.

When we take over periodontal accounts, these are the places we most often find patients leaking, and what we change first.

  1. Bidding on symptom searches

Gingivitis and gum disease searches are huge and cheap, and most want a home answer. We bid on specialist and treatment searches and win the symptom searches with pages instead.

  2. Referrals nobody counts

Ask a periodontist which offices refer most and the answer is usually a guess. Our monthly count of referrals and started treatment per office flags a fading relationship within a couple of months, long before a year-end review would.

  3. Flat budgets all year

Specialist searches peak from January to April and graft searches jump in July. We move budget and open consult slots ahead of each, instead of spending evenly.

  4. One page for every treatment

Many periodontal accounts we inherit point deep cleaning, graft and gum surgery ads at the home page. Each treatment gets its own landing page from us, written around the question that patient actually typed.

  5. Maintenance left to chance

Patients who miss maintenance visits drift back to their general dentist or nowhere. We run recall reminders from the practice system and report kept visits by office.

  6. Retargeting gum page visitors

Google treats health as a sensitive category for personalized ads. We drop custom treatment remarketing lists and reach patients again through recall email and broad reach in the spring.

Questions periodontal practice owners ask us.

Should a periodontist advertise if most patients come from referrals?

In most markets, yes, as a second source next to referrals. Charlotte-area adults run thousands of gum disease, deep cleaning and graft searches every month, many without any dentist pointing them to a specialist. Search ads fill empty consult times and make the practice less exposed if one big referrer slows down.

Will advertising directly to patients upset our referring dentists?

Not when the plan is built for it. Ads and pages speak to patients about the visit, every patient is sent back to their general dentist for regular care, and each referring office gets a report showing its patients seen and returned.

When do patients search for a periodontist the most?

In the Charlotte data, "periodontist" peaks from January to April, highest in April 2026, and falls through the summer. Gum graft surgery searches move the other way and jump in July and August. We set budgets and consult slots to both.

How much should a periodontal practice spend on advertising?

That turns on how many consults you can take, which treatments you are growing and how crowded the auction is near you. Specialist clicks start above $3 in Charlotte, so capacity and the spring and summer peaks set the first budget, and started treatment by channel moves it after that.

Do you work with periodontists outside Charlotte?

Yes. Charlotte is our base, and periodontists in other states get the same approach, rebuilt for local click costs, local seasons and the referral network around each office.

What do you measure besides leads?

Consult requests and calls, referrals by office, consults kept, treatment started and maintenance visits kept, with each treatment shown apart. A lead count alone cannot tell a home remedy question from a patient ready for treatment.
