Fencing

Fence company marketing that books estimates by the linear foot

Fence searches are mostly owners pricing materials: privacy panels, chain link, cedar pickets. The searches that end in a walked property line and a signed contract are fewer and cost far more a click. We plan search ads, Local Services Ads, your Google listing, your website and estimate follow-up around that gap, and judge every channel by estimates walked and fences sold.

  • $5.99 to $60.46estimated cost of one click on "fence installation near me" in Charlotte, for about 260 searches a month
  • 880monthly Charlotte-area searches for "privacy fence", at clicks from $1.71, peaking at 1,300 in March 2026
  • 260 to 590monthly Charlotte-area searches for "fencing contractors near me", lowest in November and December 2025 and highest in March and April 2026
  • 30Charlotte-area searches for "fence installation cost" in September 2026, down from 260 in March and April

The short answer

What should fence company marketing do for a fence company?

Fence company marketing should tell the owner pricing panels apart from the owner ready for an estimate, buy each at its own price, and fill the crew calendar with runs of fence worth the drive.

Many fence accounts we audit bid on any search that contains "fence". Around Charlotte that money flows to material shoppers looking at panels, pickets and chain link rolls, where clicks are cheap and rarely turn into an install, while installer searches that cost five to ten times more go underfunded. We split the plan by what the owner needs: a new fence run, a gate, a pool barrier or a repair after a storm. Each gets its own ads, page and budget. We plan Google Ads for fence companies, the Google listing, SEO for fence companies, social ads and email as one system, and report estimates walked and fences sold by job type.

What fence companies need their marketing to solve.

These come up in almost every fence account we review and on the sales calls behind them. They are why a fence plan looks different from a remodeler or flooring plan.

  • Material shoppers in the same search box

Owners buying panels, pickets and posts to build it themselves search the same words as owners hiring an installer. Paying the same for both drains the budget.

  • Estimates that need a site visit

Every quote means walking the property line, checking grade and gates. A short run across town can cost more to quote than it earns.

  • A spring rush and a slow winter

Price research and installer searches climb in March and April. Crews book out for weeks, then search drops through late fall.

  • Materials with very different value

Chain link, wood privacy, vinyl and ornamental aluminum differ in price per foot. A lead form that ignores material and length treats them all alike.

  • HOA rules and permits slow the yes

Many owners need neighborhood approval or a permit before they can sign. Quotes stall in that wait unless follow-up carries them through it.

  • Sold footage, not form fills

A gate repair and a 300-foot privacy fence both show up as one lead. The useful report shows estimates and sold jobs by material and size.

What owners search when they want a new fence.

Price research peaks before the build
"Fence installation cost" sat at 260 in March and April 2026 and fell to 30 by September. "Wood fence installation cost" went from 170 in March to 10 in September. Owners price fences in early spring, so the quote season starts in February.
Pools and gates keep their own calendars
"Pool fence" climbed from 110 in October 2025 to 320 in June 2026, two months after the main peak. "Driveway gates" held between 210 and 320 every month, a steady job type for the slow season. "Fence companies near me" ran 1,000 to 3,600 in every month but one outlier January.

Our approach: it depends, and the data decides.

A residential privacy fence installer, a company that also builds gates and access systems, and a farm and commercial fence builder need different plans. Four things decide where a fence plan starts.

  • Your goals More privacy fence installs, more gate and operator work, more pool barriers or more commercial bids. Each one starts in a different place.
  • Your crew calendar Booked spring weeks call for longer runs and higher-value materials. Open weeks in fall and winter call for gates, repairs and quick replacements.
  • Your smallest worthwhile job The footage and the drive time that justify an estimate set the keywords, the service area and the questions on the form.
  • Your competition Big box stores with install programs, lead marketplaces and other local crews bid on the same searches. Who shows up in your towns shapes the mix.

Data sets the budget by job type and month, ties each inquiry to a site visit and a written estimate, and shows when to move money from installer searches to gates and repairs and back.

  • Farm and commercial

Farm, field and commercial fence searches with their own ads, a bid request page, and outreach to builders and property managers.

If a fence company came to us, here is how we would start.

This is the pitch we would give a real client, built for a fictional Charlotte fence company with real search data. The company, its phone number and its website are invented. Sample data shows the kind of results a campaign like this tracks; it is not a client result and not a promise.

How our specialists segment search demand by buyer intent

We would split the account by what the owner wants built, because an installer search, a material install and a gate or repair carry different click costs and different job value. Material shopping for panels and pickets stays out of search.

Fence installers

Owners ready to hire a crew. The priciest clicks in the plan, so budget rises from February through April and every ad offers an on-site estimate.

How our negative keyword governance protects the budget

  • Panels, pickets and posts
  • Supply yards and lumber
  • Store and brand names
  • Livestock and garden netting
  • Invisible pet fences
  • Jobs and training

Fence searches pull in owners buying material, supply yard shoppers, pet containment systems and installer job seekers. Our specialists load these exclusions before launch and review the search terms every week, so the budget stays on owners hiring a crew.

How we write and test the Google search ads

Each intent group gets message-matched ad copy engineered by our specialists to qualify buyers before the click and lift expected click-through rate.

Local Services Ads and the map

Fencing services appear on Google’s list of Local Services Ads categories, so a licensed and insured fence company that passes Google’s checks can earn Google Verified status and pay per lead. Because installer clicks are expensive, we would compare LSA cost per estimate with search ads, switch on only the job types worth a site visit and dispute leads that were material questions. The map listing would carry finished fences by material, the towns served and a reply to every review.

What has worked for fence and outdoor project businesses.

No published platform story covers a local fence company exactly. These two come closest: a supplier of outdoor wood building materials that ran Facebook call ads, and a replacement window company that used YouTube to reach owners planning a home project. They are those companies’ published results, not ours; each story shows what a fence company can take from it.

Fence company marketing in Charlotte, from new subdivisions to acreage.

We are based in Charlotte, where new subdivisions bring owners who need a backyard fence and HOA approval, and the edges of the region bring acreage, long runs and driveway gates. We plan campaigns around the towns your crews reach in a day, with the materials and job sizes that fit the lots in each. We also work with fence companies nationwide; click costs, building seasons and the competition change by market, and the plan changes with them.

Six growth leaks we fix in fence ad accounts.

When we take over fence accounts, these are the places we most often find sold fences leaking, and what we change first.

  1. Buying material shoppers as leads

"Chain link fence" and "privacy fence" draw about 1,600 Charlotte searches a month between them, mostly owners pricing panels and rolls. We keep material terms out of search and reach those owners with social ads and email.

  2. Paying for picket and panel buyers

"Fence pickets" and "privacy fence panels" clicks start under 25 cents, which looks efficient until none of them books an estimate. We exclude part and supply searches unless the company sells material too.

  3. Starting the season in April

Price searches for fence installation hit their high in March and April 2026. We raise installer budgets in February, while owners are still pricing, and move money to gates and repairs when the peak fades.

  4. Slow replies on the priciest clicks

An installer click near Charlotte can run past $50 at the high end. We answer calls live, reply to forms within minutes and track the speed of every first response.

  5. Estimates booked without footage

A drive to quote 40 feet of picket fence costs the same as a full backyard. We ask length, material, gates and HOA status on the form, before the site visit is booked.

  6. One budget for every season

Pool fence searches peak in June and gate searches hold all year, while installer searches fall after April. We give each its own campaign so slower months still have work in them.

Questions fence companies ask us.

What should a fence company spend on marketing?

It depends on the jobs you want more of, how far your crews are booked and your market. We start from the searches in your area and their click costs by job type, set a budget for each, and adjust it as sold-fence data shows what each channel returns.

Should fence ads target material searches like privacy fence or chain link?

Rarely as broad terms in search. They draw many owners pricing panels and rolls. We keep search ads on installer, material install and repair searches, and reach material researchers with social ads, Pinterest and email until they want a crew.

Can fence companies run Local Services Ads?

Yes. Fencing services is a Local Services Ads category in the US, so a licensed and insured fence company that passes Google’s checks can earn Google Verified status and pay per lead. Availability varies by area; we check yours and compare it with search ads on cost per sold fence.

When should fence advertising start each year?

Before the rush. Around Charlotte, price searches for fence installation peaked in March and April 2026, so installer budgets go up in February. Gates, repairs and pool fences carry the plan through summer, fall and winter.

Do Facebook ads work for fence companies?

They work best before the search. Owners spend weeks choosing styles and waiting on HOA approval, and social ads with finished fences in their own towns keep the company in front of them until they book an estimate.

Do you work with fence companies outside Charlotte?

Yes. We are based in Charlotte and work with fence companies across the US. The method is the same; building seasons, click costs and the competition change with each market.
